Does anybody know of a good way to convert a doc file to a PDF? My publisher is looking for a PDF but I'm on a new computer and it didn't come with anything on it for this. I've downloaded a couple of PDF converters off of websites but the PDFs come out all screwed up, the spacing is way off.

I think Open Office can do it free.

I also think that Adobe has an online tool you can use.

I'll look into that and edit this post when I find out for sure, if I find anything else I'll post that too.

I couldn't find anything on Open Office, but their site is http://www.openoffice.org

The adobe online PDF converter can be found at http://www.adobe.com/acom/createpdf/?promoid=DINFK

Thanks! I went to the acrobat.com site and pulled a program from there, but it said it couldn't convert my file type....?

The file I'm trying to convert (this is a new book) is a .doc file, from a Microsoft Works Word Processor. I originally used AbiWord 2.8 for the file because this laptop had no word processor on it -- then I converted the Abi file to a .doc and now I'm stuck....!

Well, I can get a PDF but it's all botched up....!!

Here's a site I found that may help, it's another online converter.

http://www.freepdfconvert.com/

From the Google search results:

keyword: free .doc to .pdf converter

I also found http://www.doc-pdf.com/

From:

keyword: how to convert .doc to .pdf

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I figure one of these ought to work -- I took your advice and I'm downloading OpenOffice now.....

I hope that works.

Just open the .doc in OpenOffice and go to File>Export as PDF...

That should do it.

Same problem with the Universal Document Converter -- it creates the PDF but the spacing is all over the map -- plus it's got a giant watermark that covers half the page....

Hey, s1ow -- !!

I tried Primo before I made my initial post here -- no go -- no exotic formatting here, either, but I just can't get any of these to work....!!

You could try to take screen snapshots, crop and stich them, then convert the images to pdf.

But...

I'm sure there's gotta be a way to convert the original file to pdf properly.

Worked on it till all hours of the night, and now all morning, and I'm getting nowhere. There are a million conversion programs out there but none of them will convert this file.

Tried it, it won't do anything without a registration code, which of course it didn't give me.....

Some of these may be duplicates and some may (or not) work, but they're worth a shot:
