It's hard to over come, as with any addiction, but if one truely desires help, they can overcome it. It's certainly not something that can be done alone or in secret, which makes it even more difficult for those who suffer to seek the help they need.

There are different kind of sex addictions

addiction to:

sex itself
pornography
prostitutes
deviant sexual practices

It is the same as any other addictions. But it's more a psychological rather than physical disorder

the addict needs clinical therapy. Either on a one-one or group setting:heart:

It is probably better than a heroin addiction.

Porn is the one thing in my life that leads to nothing good, yet I go back to it all to often. I hate it, the more I look at porn, the more I stare at a lady's chest. It diffently brings out the side of me that I do not like. Not sure how to break from it unless I take a hammer to my computer or the more permanant solution of cutting off my arms. It flat out sucks!

Haha well this is not a joke. Sex addiction is real just like any other type of addiction.
Read this:

Sexual addiction is not a character defect or a moral issue. It is a disease that affects the brain.  Underlying sexual addiction is shame and low self worth.   Partners are similarly affected and are faced with navigating through betrayal and anger. Most addicts, and those affected by addiction, need a system of support and comprehensive treatment plan for recovery.

And read more:

Neurochemistry of Addiction:

During sexual stimulation certain chemical reactions increase in the brain. For example, dopamine levels, which are tied to the feelings of both boredom and depression, are increased by the influx of adrenaline that is part of sexual activity. When our dopamine level goes up, we feel better. ( This reaction explains the stimulus-seeking nature of some addicts: They’re after the adrenaline rush that boosts dopamine, and often they’re using sex to induce it. ) Likewise, when humans experience skin-to-skin contact, that touch releases oxytocin into the brain, which is associated with feelings of well-being and pleasure. Further, the intense ecstasy felt during sexual activity is partially the result of opiate-like substances called catecholamines. These reactions are pure biology.

Brain chemicals are also governed by the concept of tolerance, which means that eventually more and more activity is required to get the same “positive” result.

Sexual activity can provide a high equal to crack cocaine.

Addicts thus become pharmacologists of their own brains as they seek to find escape, excitement, or medication for their pain through sexual activity or with other addictive substances. The addict literally carries within their own brain a constant supply of powerful drugs. 1

I'm not buying it. It sounds like another way for a psychiatrist to bilk a person out of some cash. Those that claim to have it, just lack self discipline, have commitment issues and are looking for a cop out. It's not like chemical or alcohol addiction where the drug itself has caused a biological change in a person. It's just a cheater making excuses.

Now, let's get back to the jokes.

Sorry, no cigar (pun intended) for this one. It's a bogus, 'medicalized' pseudo-problem that exists only in the mind of the 'sufferer' ... the whole post looks like a triumph of 'cut 'n paste' ...

Y' ever notice that NO ONE had heard of this until the Clinton years ... ?

Remember, if you have an erection that lasts longer than four hours, call a hooker - not your hand.

Yeah... all those damn fakers changing their physiology and synaptic responses for a quickie. How clever.

Next drunks will be saying that mental obsession is a main component in addictive and compulsive behaviors.

Is there a qualitative difference in being addicted to, say, roasted peanuts instead of sex ... ? Addiction IS addiction, regardless, right ... ? Just a difference of kind, not of type ... and some of those roasted peanuts can look pretty damned kinky, y' know ...
