Well, I will date any man that treats me right. I have dated men that my friends have not found good looking but I dated the them because they made me feel good. Men and women both are visual creatures. I have had men say they couldn't date me because I wasn't pretty enough too; so are they shallow or is it simply perference? I certainly don't lose sleep over it. When a man can accept me for who I am and how I look; then he is the right guy for me. Its that simple.

I don't think it is actually the women that are shallow i see pretty good looking girls with some ugly dudes, it's not the norm, but it is not uncommon either.

Most often I see average women with average guys though.

I think the issue is the not so good looking/average guy wants a women that looks like a model, and when she doesn't recipricate they think they are shallow, but the guy never 'lowers his standards' and keeps trying with women that are probably out of his league.

The guy is the shallow one often, because he only goes after extremely hot women, and doesn't even consider what he may already have right in his realm.

They make sense to me Isaac. Certain things are ingrained into our psyche whether we care to admit it or not.

For men it's find a pretty woman to make babies with. For women it's find a strong man who can provide for the family. This goes back to caveman days people, times have changed but we're still human.

I don't believe in leagues.

I cannot date out of my league because my league is all inclusive.

That makes since, guess it is just in our DNA.

But the definition of 'pretty' depends on the society in which one lives as well, for example the tribes where they stretch their lips/or lengthen their neck are considered the most desirable...definitley not 'pretty' by our standards in the US. Do you think it is just a competition thing than among men? "look at the trophy I got?"

I agree completely. It used to be that larger women were more desirable and a status symbol. In some parts of the world lighter skin shows higher class and people try to keep themselves covered up so they don't tan and look like the working class. It's all subjective but the basic need is the same.

I think it's just an low self esteem issue. It do goes both ways though. If you can't like or love yourself, then you can't expect anyone else to.
