I don't mind the e-mails for I answer them back and forth all day. Just those do not obligate you to be right there. Those that I e-mail know I will always answer them back but not always as soon as I get it. But do as soon as I can, where with Im you are stuck just doing one thing they seem to get a bit irritated if they have to wait on your reply....

Eh? I IM all the time with my friends. I thought everyone does the same. I find it delightful, kinda like an enjoyable friendly telephone conversation without the sore throat after effects. laugh

There's the occasional stranger, but it doesn't last long. Just some polite conversation , then buh-bye.

I leave my IM on here. Occasionally I get an interesting IM. Other than that, it's easy enough to close the window if it's not interesting.

Since I am usually only on here at work, our firewall blocks any and all IM's so I don't have to deal with it at all. I don't mind them though....

I used to think that way. Then I get people relentlessly re-im ing. Even after I say, 'no IMing please'. The little box continues popping up, after I close it, popping up again, and interfering with my typing.

I dont like blocking people but the IM bit required me to do so on occasion.

It can happen via email as well, which is even worse because I get a notification each time I get an email. If I say I'm not interested, some people will email over and over. At least with the IM, I can just leave the window there and not get a notification each time. Sometimes blocking works well in either case. I had to recently block someone who insisted on sending nudges over and over, even after I asked them to stop.
