That is not true because some Americans will desecrate a Commie flag in a minute, doing what they protest being done to theirs.

Too damn bad Al Queada doesn't have a flag.
I shove it up their *** first and then set fire to it.

The American Flag is a symbol.
A symbol of all those who serve her.
Have served her, and
died for her!

Died and served for you, and your children, and your grand-children.
So you can live the life you live.

A flag is more then just a piece of cloth to the majority of Americans.

than that majority shouldn't desecrate one if they purchase it

but if anyone chooses to desecrate THEIR OWN property(whatever it is),, its their business...

Not!

Many an American fought and died for that flag and what it means.
You say don't protest a funeral?
Many a funeral has been held where that flag was given as a sign of respect.
Respect for the sacrifice made so others can live free in a land where they do nothing for that right. Do nothing except suck the cream off the top. Never in their whole life giving anything back.

All we ask is to show respect for what we have sacrificed a part of our lives for.
Show a little appreciation for what we gave you..

sorry, but if it can be PURCHASED(as a flag), noone GAVE it to me or anyone else,, and once some individual pays for a product, it should be their right to do as they wish with it,,,

When you buy an American Flag. (Old Glory)
You are paying an appreciation tax.
You don't own it, and you agree to show it respect. Call it an unspoken contract.

You don't fly her in the rain.
If you fly her at night, you place a spotlight on her.
If she falls, tatters, or fades, you either bury or burn her.
If flown beside another flag, Old Glory will be flown to the left, as you face her, and higher.

Many of us swore an oath to defend Old Glory and what she stands for.
Before she is captured we would give our very life.
It should be considered a hate-crime to desecrate the American Flag.

id love to see the penalty for doing any of those things with a flag one has purchased with their own money?

its material, that some worship it enough to 'die' for it is their business,,,

now the AMERICANS that people die for, I will feel a bond with them enough to stand up for their respect and appreciation as fellow human beings

The flag is a symbol of our country and those who do not respect the flag do respect the country. Our flag symbolizes this country much the same way the Bald Eagle does, maybe we should cover burning the Bald Eagle under the first amendment too...just sayin'!

I disagree, the flag is not as symbolic for everyone, it is cloth with a historic pattern

that doesnt mean it has to be disrespected, but if it is, it shouldnt be criminal unless on government property of some sort

I Respect and love PEOPLE, I have never truly been engulfed into 'love' of land or cloth or symbols or icons,, but that doesnt mean I am disrespecting my country in any way

it just means I am not quite as into SYMBOLISM and IDOLATRY

The people who do not like or show respect for the stars and stripes are commies.

how do you 'RESPECT' a pattern or a cloth?, you may abide by the traditions associated with it, but how has it 'EARNED' respect, being inanimate and all

Because it is the same flag used in countless battles all over the world. You think it's just a piece of cloth?People died trying to raise that flag in battles. In early Wars someone walked next to the soldiers holding that flag totally unarmed. When he died someone else picked it up.It was worth someones life to walk with that flag and many died doing it.

I know when I was in the Navy I would raise or take down the flag on our command on occasion. If that flag hit the ground and a officer saw it you better get ready to get your a** kicked because they wouldn't hesitate to give you a right hook for doing that.In the military the red in our flag represented our blood. Our flag never hits the ground because to hit the ground is to die.If the flag did hit the ground it would be considered soiled and folded and burned. When folded it is folded in a way so no red is ever showing or "no blood".Every day on every command in the military no matter where it is they raise the flag and play the national anthem.Anyone walking must stop and face the flag.If you are in uniform you salute it.

By flying it proudly! There is such a thing as flag etiquette and it should be followed. Showing disrespect for the identity of this country is something pinko commies, radical muslims, and stupid people do. There is an incredible amount of history behind the flag that people are not being taught and that is a crime IMO. I think the flag should be flown upside down (which means the country is in distress)due to the last 3 presidents including the jackass in office right now.

So the old man who shot Funches for punching him was justified but it's OK to burn Old Glory even though its disrespectful to those who keep you safe.
Would it be justifiable to shoot a disrespectful and unappreciative person for desecrating the flag?

there is history behind the flag in the ideal, but in reality the BILLions of flags out there touched human hands, were manufactured, and SOLD

they are products that people purchase, the cross is supposedly symbolic of Christs sacrifice, but it is MANUFACTURED and therefore the point of reverence is not the SYMBOL but the PERSON it stands for

I would feel someone who didnt revere a cross as someone who wasnt prone to symbolism, I would be offended if someone burned a cross to be offensive, but I would never make the leap that because it doesnt mean to them what it means to me , it should be considered 'criminal'

lol, I think it would be hugely hypocritical,, after all, were those men truly dying for a cloth with a design on it? or for the PEOPLE of the country they call home(including the one who might get killed for not showing the 'reverence' to an object that someone else decides they should show)

its kind of like committing murder because someone cheated on you, the reaction is not balanced to the 'crime', the reaction is worse than the 'crime'

the very notion that someone's health and safety should be less important than a material because of what that material 'stood' for is laughable to me anyhow

How is anyone harmed when one of these folks mutilates a flag? Actual, demonstrable harm that can be proven in a court of law?

Sure, they're pressing someone's buttons, but what of it? When you analyze it logically, having your buttons pressed harms you only because you let it-- the ideals this country was built upon are not so weak and fragile that they can be transferred to a piece of cloth and destroyed.

Isn't THAT self-evident, that just as the map is not the territory, the flag is not the chutzpah that keeps the USA running as the single brightest hope in a sea of moral mediocrity?

Personally, I'm much more concerned about politicians that 'wrap themselves in the flag' so as to delude and deceive us about what they REALLY stand for.
