I just read another article about a man taking his wife and her kids before killing himself.

There has to be more that meets the eye on this one because he spared his biological kids. Regardless its a sad thing.

Depression and suicide rates went up during the Great Depression for those that lost everything in the stock market crash.
 Before the Great Recession was announced, I predicted something similar with the auto workers who were losing their jobs. But, I haven't looked up the statistics to see if my prediction came true. |

It is very sad.
You have to wonder how the mind goes to killing the kids.

She suspect that he was cheating on her tragic as well,, but dont women have 'clinical' excuses such as postpartum depression? They say our hormones supposedly cause us to go to such extremes,,,and the added cultural expectation that we raise the kids AND work AND stroke the male ego,, all while smiling... lol what reason does the 'stronger' sex have, especially when they usually have only had to maintain a nine to five job,,, |

My experience has just been that there is a different standard of what women can handle and what men can,,,,,, and a noted difference in how they both choose to handle things,,, |

It's a followup to this generations selfishness. One can't just decide that their own life sucks, and end it, they have to take as many others out as possible.
"If I can't have it all, then no one can" attitude. We've gotten to much on the needs of one, outweighing needs of many, as well as such a push that people have to be involved in a relationship or else. About 8 years ago, there was a rash of suicides in the high school with kids blowing their brains out in front of the gal when the girlfriend broke up with them. Sorry, no relationship is that important. |

I find that another issue that I feel is leading to tragic events like this one has to do with pressure. Moreover, peer pressure. As kids, we are taught that when we hit the end of high school and graduate that we are supposed to have our life (from that point on) mapped out. We are supposed to know what we are gonna do with our lives, and we are supposed to be financially set by a certain age, and so on and so forth. So, we do what we are supposed to do, cause we think that it is going to work out just the way we planned it.
And then, we get that job we wanted, start making a nice income, maybe get married, and have kids. Yes, all fine and dandy. Just like we planned. But, then the things we didn't plan on happen. We get credit cards, start financing our lives away, become depressed that we hate life, hate our marriage, and we just don't know what happened. And then, economy crashes. Job loss. Wife or Hubby leaves us for someone else because they can't take it anymore. We begin to lose those things that we earned and it hits us in the gut. And instead of sucking it up, and working to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and start all over again, we go ape s*it! We do something like this because we cannot handle the looks that family and friends give us, or the ridicule. Maybe it is all imagined. Maybe it all isn't. Point is, people today just don't take loss very well, and when the pressure mounts.....they just crumble. I know a guy who lost eleven.....ELEVEN businesses in a row. He had huge amounts of debt when he started business #12. Everyone laughed at him, mocked him, but you know what? Dude would not be denied. And #12 was the one that took off. That made him wealthy. Not filthy rich, but wealthy. And he was in his 50's when he did this. He lost everything.....but in the end, he got it all back. Now, I know this guy fought depression. He constantly had to make himself keep going. Ridicule is a biatch, especially when it comes from loved ones. Anyways, I know that times are tough. And people will rationalize doing something tragic like this. Sad to say that events like this will be a part of our lives. |

A teacher in Los Angeles just jumped off a bridge becuase of a bad school review. SOOO SAD! Teachers work so hard, many students are left behind when they come home to dyer situations and are unable to focus on school. It's sad the teacher was carrying that large burden to his young death.

instead of cooking or woodworking class(or perhaps in addition to it), we should be adding anger management/stress management courses to our general school curriculum
seems like the two working parents/ single moms/ childrens rights, and technological age have truly lessoned basic survival skills for many people,,,, |

that being said, here in Columbus Ohio - two days ago a Father killed his 8 and 6 year old boys, then himself... the mother came home and found them. Tragic. The fater left a note, that he wanted to ""I will shield S&S from a life filled with confusion, questioned allegiances, guilt, hopeless, co-dependence and insecurity," Geller said in the note that was found inside his home on Sunday. I think that is a great idea. I think a lot of kids now days need to be in stress/anger management classes. Things have changed so much over the years. It's hard to watch them have to deal with all our shortcomings as a society. ie:drugs/politics/economic downfall
