How can anyone with even minimal logic or reason buy into this ??
It is so rediculous and imaginary .......

So many people waste so much time, energy, guilt and so much $$ on religion. It is OK if they want to live in an imaginary world, I just dislike that it is pressed upon us freethinkers. "in god we trust"....are you kidding !!!! :)

Christianity in no way is cruel or evil. Our father teaches us to love your neighbour as ourselves. Teaches us not to steal from one another, not to physically or emotionally hurt one another. Teaches us no evil actions.

Unfortunatly, most have no problem being cruel or evil to anyone who disagrees w/ them.

It is THOSE people's actions. It is not Christianity that teaches as such. Christianity tells us again to love our neighbours and provide for them when in need just as we would do for ourselves.

"How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock," (Psalm 137:9).

Critics often bring up this verse as an attack on the validity of the Bible. But, does the Bible teach that it is okay to kill children? The answer, of course, is no it doesn't. But we must ask what the Psalmist was saying and why he was saying it.

The context of Psalm 137 is the Babylonian captivity. The Psalmist speaks of the captors tormenting the people of God (vv. 1-3), a promise to remember Jerusalem (vv. 5-6), and a curse against the captors (vv. 7-9).

The Psalmist is in exile and had probably witnessed the atrocities committed against his people, babies included. In the revenge-style that was so common at the time, he wishes the same upon his enemy as a description of their utter destruction. Nowhere does it say that God approves of the Psalmist’s request or that he fulfilled it. Just because it is recorded that the Psalmist wrote the imprecation, doesn’t mean it was approved by God.

It is worth noting that the Old Testament records many atrocities. The fact is that God allowed people their sinful desires and he worked within their culture, even as he does now, as he permits all kinds of bad things to happen. "

'Eating of children' actually occured during the seige of Jerusalem due to famine. Something Jeremiah warned them would happen, those who heeded his warning escaped.

Iteresting...

I thought sound bites were only something used in political campaigns.

Now I see that they can be applied to the written word for any kind of propaganda.

I have not read the book in questions but I have heard some of the parts that people say out loud to one another. (that would be the true living bible).

So I can see these 'sound bites' for what they are.

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF DIVINE JUSTICE. THE BABYLONIANS HAD TAKEN BABIES FROM THEIR MOTHER'S BREAST & KILLED THEM BY SMASHING THEIR HEADS AGAINST THE ROCKS. THE PSALMIST IS TALKING ABOUT IT BEING DEVINE JUSTICE THAT THEY ONE DAY WILL DO TO THE BABYLONIANS WHAT THEY DID TO THE ISRAELITE FAMILIES. FIRST OF ALL, THIS IS THE PRINCIPLE OF AN EYE FOR AN EYE. SECOND, IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE CHILDREN WILL DIE FOR EVER. THERE IS COMING A TIME WHEN ALL THOSE WHO DID NOT HAVE A CHANCE FOR SALVATION WILL RECEIVE THAT CHANCE. FOR EXAMPLE THE SCRIPTURES STATE:

SO THIS IS GOD'S COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN HE WILL TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS. WHEN WILL THAT BE? IT WILL BE AFTER THE THOUSAND YEARS ARE FULFILLED. NOTICE THAT EZEKIEL ISAIAH SPEAKS OF THIS TIME, AS WELL AS EZEKIEL:

Isa 65:20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. Isa 65:21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

Eze 37:4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. SO, WHO ARE THESE BONES? THEY ARE THOSE WHO WERE NOT CONVERTED IN THIS LIFE. THEY WILL BE RAISED TO FLESH AND BLOOD AT THE END OF A THOUSAND YEARS AFTER CHRIST RETURNS AND THEN THEY WILL COME TO KNOW THEIR GOD AND REPENT AND ACCEPT HIM THEN.

Eze 37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Eze 37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. RABSHAKEH WAS THE REPRESENTATIVE OF SENNACHARIB THE GENERAL OF THE ASSYRIAN ARMY. HE HAD TAKEN MUCH OF ISRAEL CAPTIVE AND NOW CAME TO JERUSALEM. IT WAS HIS AMBASSADOR SAYING THIS IN AN ATTEMPT TO SCARE THE JEWS INTO SUBMISSION. THE KING OF JUDAH PETITIONED GOD AND GOD SAVED THEM. THE ASSYRIAN ARMY DESTROYED THEMSELVES.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21

“If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.”

THIS COMES FROM THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT. WE ARE TO HONOR OUR MOTHERS AND FATHERS. THIS WAS TO BE DONE IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE CONGREGATION AND THE FIRST TO THRONE THE STONES WERE THE PARENTS. THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT BE LIKELY TO DO THIS UNLESS THE CHILD REFUSED CORRECTION. THUS HE WAS AS GOOD AS A CRIMINAL ELEMENT IN SOCIETY. TODAY, WE TAKE THE OPPOSITE APPROACH AND ARE PROUD OF IT. MY FIRST GOOGLE OF CRIMES BY YOUTH:

The stories that are true are frightening. Most recently, shocking accounts of school violence have captured the nation’s attention, riveting the country toward the “problem” of adolescent violence in our schools. And young people are in danger. The United States has the worst youth violence rates in the world. But the key to piecing together the puzzle of youth violence is first to look at the facts.

According to the Surgeon General, almost one out of every three sixteen to seventeen year olds in the United States self reports participating in acts of serious violence. From 1985 to 1994, the rate of homicides committed by youth aged fourteen to seventeen years increased by 172 percent. In 1999, 35.7 percent of high school students reported being in a physical fight within the last twelve months.

While these numbers are alarming, there is also some good news. Arrest rates for weapons offenses among ten to seventeen year old youth doubled between 1987 and 1993, but then dropped by 24 percent by 1997. Between 1995 and 1997, there was a 22.4 percent drop in the number of youth who reported carrying a firearm once in the past three days.

THIS IS GOD'S JUDGMENT ON NATIONS WHO ATTEMPT TO RULE HIS PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARE SERVIING AND TRUSTING IN HIM. THIS COULD BE OUR POSITION, BUT WE HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO TRUST HIM OR TO FOLLOW HIS WAYS, SO A KING WILL TAKE US OVER. HE IS CALLED THE BEAST IN REVELATION. Deuteronomy 23:1 "No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord."

HERE IS THE PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE TODAY. THEY DO N0T HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHO GOD IS. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR HIM, HIS GLORY, OR HIS HOLINESS. BUT JUST SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA, WHEN HE CAME DOWN ON MT SIANI, THE PEOPLE DID NOT SEE HIM. THEY JUST FELT THE EFFECT OF HIS PRESENCE, AND THEY LET THEIR BOWLS LOOSED. HIS PRESENCE SCARED THE ....OUT OF THEM.

A HUMAN BEING CANNOT EVEN LOOK ON GOD AND LIVE. WHEN HE RETURNS, HE FIRST BRINGS ALL THE GREAT ARMIES OF THE NATIONS TO THE MIDDLE EAST, THEN WHEN HE IS RETURNING, THEY FIGHT HIM. HE EXPOSES HIMSELF TO THEM, AND THE FLESH MELTS OFF THEY BONES, ZEC 14. (READ IT).
