A toy shop has been branded “ridiculous” by mothers after it removed a pig from a children’s farm set – in case it offended Muslim and Jewish parents. (there’s no way they were worried about Jews complaining, solely aimed at Muslims-ed.)

The animal was missing from the Early Learning Centre’s (ELC) HappyLand Goosefeather Farm when a mother bought it as a gift for her daughter’s first birthday.

The set did contain a cow, sheep, chicken, horse and dog, but the pig sty was empty – even though there was a button that made an “oink” noise.

When the mother named only as Caroline complained, she was told in an email the pig had been removed in case it upset Muslim or Jewish parents.

Eating pork is banned in both religions because pigs are considered unclean.

But the company has now done a U-turn and pledged to reinstate the pig because of complaints from parents.

Caroline, who brought the issue to light in a forum on the Netmums website, wrote: “This is political correctness gone loopy.

But some defended ELC and one parent said the company should have considered selling two separate versions of the toy, one with a pig and one without.

I wonder if there would be any protest if, after the Mosque was built, for the street vendors to line both sides of the building with carts selling pork ribs, ham sandwiches, sausages, etc., and push their wares on all the people who come and go from the building. I bet many NYers would walk a little farther just to buy their lunch in protest.

You know, this makes me laugh. I actually agree here with you, if people don't like it, what the hell are they doing there? The thing that makes me laugh though is being behind Americans in queues at airports for example, bemoaning the fact that they are getting searched when anyone who goes to America has to go through a lot worse in terms of security procedure! It's human nature, people love to moan but then don't stop to think about whether the rules should apply to them!

City council approved it. They have yet to get financing but won't disclose where the millions are coming from. Many think the money is coming from the Middle East as sort of a "victory Mosque"... but that is another thread.

IMO...This world is getting too carried away with PC. I mean, it's one thing to try and be respectful of others beliefs but obviously you can't please everyone without offending someone.

it's all about money, under the guise of being PC correct...they want the muslim and Jewish business too. i really do not like coddling to the muslims, if i go into a restaurant and i see they do not sell any pork, i leave right away, whatever the reason is. mostly Chinese places, but any restaurant should sell it here.

The Hindus only get bothered when there is a slaughterhouse toy with cattle or pigs or anything else. A cow on a farm is innocent enough because to them a farm without an OX or Cow to pull the plow is like a farm without a tractor here! Oh no, the Hindus will not appreciate their farm toys not including a Hindu Farm Tractor! MOO!

actually, Hindu's do not use cows for anything... they just let them roam free, and clean up their poo...(I'm not sure about the poo part) but cattle are a religious figure in India, and for the most part the just do what they want around the cities... they think their dead relatives spirits are in the cows.
