it would be silly not to judge, what were we given a brain for,,,

the manner and CONSISTENCY with which we judge, is a different matter

Most people make judgments. They just don't like to admit it.

People who preach "You shouldn't judge" or say "I don't judge" are full of crap.

Yep, that's a judgment.

I'm sick of being told that I should not "judge."

This is a thread for passing judgement without guilt.

Have at it.

Everyone judges sometimes. If someone says they don't, they're in denial.

Maybe it would make a difference if we talked about the kinds of things we do make judgments about and the things we don't. For instance, I make no judgment whatsoever about sexual preference.I am quite judgmental about how people treat other people.

So, you think it's better to judge about certain things, but not others? Who decides what's better to judge?

For me, I do. How 'bout you?

Ah, ok. Then you judge people based on what they pass judgment about?

I had to think about that, but yes, I suppose so. A person who only makes judgments about how much money somebody can make for him without judging how evil he may be would be pretty low in my judgment.

Maybe an arms dealer, who will sell dangerous weapons to whoever pays him the most.

Like I said, everyone judges others. If they say they don't, I don't believe it.

And to use your example, those who judge based on sexual preference are pretty low in my judgment.

I think there is a fine line. If i see a person who is consistently making bad decisions with a lack of common sense....or treating others disrespectfully, i may choose not to associate myself with that person. I don't consider myself judging them, i consider myself sparing my own lively hood from all of their drama. They are free to act like a donkey if they want. That's on them. . . i consider judging to be something you do by making an assessment without really knowing a person. .. . but like a say, if you witness them time and time again, then I dont consider it a judgement as much as a personal decision.

Part of me does make judgement or assessments about people but I think that is the forming of a personal opinion. My personal opinion is not equal to the judgement of a judge who sits on the bench and decides the fate of a person charged with murder. Is he guilty or innocent? Is he a murderous scumbag or just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Did he do it on purpose or on accident? Is he criminally insane or just a soulless bastard who deserves to die for his evil crimes?

If you are on a jury, you are empowered to make those judgments. If not, you personal judgments are simply your opinions. Yes, they are judgments, but they don't hold a lot of weight on their own. If you are God (or an almighty judge of some kind who decides your fate like Santa Claus) on the other hand, your judgments do hold a lot of weight.

I might judge a serial killer to be a worthless piece of crap that deserves to die, but in truth he could be a very damaged and disturbed individual. Even so, we have to decide if a person like that can be "fixed" or if society is better off by just killing that guy. If you put him in a prison or hospital, tax payers end up footing the bill.

I won't lie, I do. At times I even put all of mankind on trial. However, I do understand the human condition, so it's not as if there is no method to the madness. :)
