Topic: Why do Americans seem to hate the English so much?

Why do Americans seem to hate the English so much? I wouldnt judge anyone on where they come from. There seems to be so many misconceptions of England and the English. This is such a shame!

I wasn't aware that (we) Americans hated the English. I thought it was the French who hated Americans.

I have always liked them. Don't know anyone who doesn't. We ARE them. Except with better food.

I wasn't aware that (we) Americans hated the English. I thought it was the French who hated Americans. Hahaha that's amazing, Don't the French hate everyone? who knew!

Its the British Empire, and the Monarchy I hate. (Change that to "don't like.")

I wasn't aware that we hated the English either... I've never heard anything negative about the English excluding the obvious "in other countries, what happened in history" which is pretty close to what's been said about Americans and then some...

I only like the monarchy due to the tourists coming over to England due to that, and i'm all for helping local businesses! But I know exactly what you mean!

America won its freedom from the British at the cost of many good lives. And now some Americans go ga-ga over the monarchy and all that royal wedding nonsense. Then even some of our own politicians get knighted by the queen. I consider that treason. Screw the monarchy.

Lots of Scots and Irish living in America, might have something to do with that perception.

Lots of Scots and Irish living in America, might have something to do with that perception. there are welsh who arent real fond of them either,,,lol as it has been explained to me, its a very similar sentiment that 'minorities' sometimes have in America due to its racially tense history those countries were very independent people who were then kind of taken over(oppressed by some definitions) by the english, historically speaking so there is bound to be tension between americans and english though,, not the same history

Americans hate the English because of the English hoity-doity. Or the fags they smoke. Or the dog-ends on the pavement. Or the pikies in bushes. Or the fat Enlish birds. Or the culture (of which Americans only have the American kind.) Or the history. Or the reason the English was never beat by the Viet Kong. Or the English speak English. The Queen's. Or that the English, the stubborn bulldogs that they are, just would not admit that the plays of Shakespeare and the poetry by Milton were not written by Shakespeare and by Milton, respectively, but by the other, vice-versa, mutually and kitty-corner from each other. Or that the English prime ministers were erudite, witty and eloquent, unlike the US presidents who make their nation laugh by walking into walls and not being able to open doors (they push when they ought to pull) and by saying incredibly stupid things, mixing the verb-predicate alignment, and that the English had a world-class empire, whereas the Amys are trying to push democracy by destroying other countries' economy, infrastructure, societies, culture, education system, medicare, standard of living, and way of life.

Are you implying that empire building is a virtue, sir? You realize that to build their empire, the Brits were just as violent and brutal as the "Amys" are today, yes? (even considering that they didn't have the hi-tech murder weapons we have now)
