A while back a guy tried to make fun of me in front of a couple of my girl friends for being bald and fat. I said,"Yeah, maybe so, but you gotta admit, I make bald and fat look good," while rubbing my belly. I got the girls approval.

I am short and fat... we'll have to duke it out one day. :-)

When others brag, does it impress you?

Do you brag to impress others? Do you think it works?

No I think braggers and name droppers are lame. You can be cool without all of that BS.

I am more interested in the person who veiws it as bragging...

Isn't it more about their own sense of inadequacies showing?

Someone can rabbit on all day about what they have done, who they have done, how they have done....everything...and I think they are pretty cool...the reason being is the world is waiting to tear you down every chance it gets....why not be down right happy as a pig in sh*te with your own accomplishments.

I applaud people who are pleased with their accomplishments, however mundane others may veiw them....not spend my time b * tching and moaning about a bragger.

Tall poppy syndrome, is about dragging someone down to your level.

Context has a lot to do with it too. I used to work for a guy that constantly bragged about how fast his car was. If he had just bought it, it would to be expected; but years after he bought it, still mentioning how much faster than this or that car it was every chance he got became extremely annoying. Eventually, everyone realized that he only did it because he understood that he really didn't have anything going for him, but he still was trying to convince everyone else that having the fastest car made him an alpha male somehow. It became a negative trait where it had started out healthy.

Brag away if you want! Don't worry about those who are turned off by it. The Krupas of the world will love you for it.

Hummmmm guess it depends if it is bragging or if one is just proud of accomplishment they have made, or something that has happen to them that was good.

If it is that then I'm happy for them.bigsmile

But.......now if they are bragging to a point just to rub it in and acting as if they are better then others then yeah that does get to me.

As far as doing it to impress others that is something I don't do and feel it does not work it just annoys others.slaphead

I agree with what you wrote. I would be lying if I said I have never bragged about my accomplisments as I am proud. I also love to hear my friends brag about their accomplishments and congratulate them on it. What's life without a big of bragging?

Humans have the ability to overachieve....to exceed talent, skill, and ability for a brief period. This allows virtually everyone the chance to accomplish something outstanding at some point in their lives. This is what is meant when someone says "everyone is special". Unfortunately, too many just don't put things in the proper context. Too many want to be negative or criticize. Too few are willing to be constructive or offer alternative solutions after tearing something down.

If Donald Trump didn't brag, he wouldn't own most of the real estate he has now, nor would he have the Miss Universe pageant, nor a reality TV show. He got there by bragging, and we watch him because of it. We feed his ego, but his ego is a facade meant to make himself money.

Bill Gates couldn't have built Microsoft without doing a bit of bragging. He had to sell his product, and get a license for it.

The point is, there is place for bragging. Just make sure you can back it up when you do.

"I love my wife... she's such a nice gal. She takes good care of me."

That is not bragging.

"My wife is the best in the world... she's better looking than most peope's wives, she cooks much better meals than the wives of most other people, including some, if not all, in this room. And in the bedroom... guys, she would kill you in the bedroom. It takes a guy like me to handle a woman like my wife the way she wants to be handled."

This is bragging.

---------

There are ways to brag without directly involving comparisons to the audience; this can be implied.

One can brag about a talent, a possession, a lifestyle.

There are ways to say what makes you great, and to show how you are proud of your accomplishments, which are not bragging.

Sometimes the social context is not conducive to reveal your accomplishments, because in any way you could say them, would seem like bragging. In those times you simply have to bite the bullet and not state them. Even if it kills you.

I guess what I see is that most people can't back it up. If they could, it probably wouldn't come off as being quite so arrogant. Who knows.

I got a 10" penis...

and I can prove it.

Sometimes bragging is nothing more than a statement of fact.
