With his history as editor, and author of two best selling books, I somehow doubt he has to have teleprompters any more than ANY modern president in order to speak to the public.

Not to mention, having seen him twice in person without teleprompter and any number of times in live television interviews, I believe its an incredible stretch to imply that he has any issue with expressing himself intelligently to the public or anyone else.

He is probably the best educated and best public speaker we have had as president since George Washington.

I doubt he needs a teleprompter. Its the people to try to dictate to him what he should say who probably got nervous.

For George Bush, it would have been a disaster.

His Talks without a Teleprompter suggest different!laugh

not the ones I have seen in person

also questionably rare for a magna cum laude (top of the class, as opposed to 'c' student) Harvard law graduate to not understand the english language or how to use it,,,,

I don't question his abilities in public speaking, he does very well. I am just saying that he does a lot better with his teleprompter, if he didn't, it probably wouldn't have been newsworthy.

Exactly how high is that pedestal you have him on? I suspect he may get a nose bleed if you don't let him come back down to earth and visit the mortals every now and again.

So why did the GOP stealthe teleprompter then?laugh

Reagan was the first teleprompter-in-chief, and most have used them since they were invented. It's the way speeches are usually given - you have notes and reference points in front of you so you don'tget lost. Desperation from the GOP: Par the course.

I suspect, when speaking for 45 minutes to 2 hours at a time, ANYONE would do better with some notes,, whether via teleprompter or written page

but I was responding to the implication that he would be 'lost' without one,,,

no pedestal, just interested in countering those things I consider nonsense,,,

Let's not be to hasty about that. I think I agree with many of the major historians that Lincoln and Kennedy take the case as the most charasmatic and profound speakers, but we've have several others who had some great moments, including FDR.

Although I totally agree about G. Bush - his speeches were a disaster even when prompted!

Research it!

I have,, as I said, unsubstantiated.

if he doesn't need teleprompters, then why did he have 200,000 dollars worth?

I dont know,, do you think those with 200,000 cars NEED them?
Do you think the budget for teleprompters comes from the presidents request?

Speeches require notes, either on cards, or on paper, or on a teleprompter. So, PRESIDENTS rely on notes for extensive speeches. But PResidents have other ways to communicate without extensive speeches.

So Presidents need teleprompters (or some source of notes to refer to)for lengthy speeches, but not to communicate

He used his power and influence to weasel his way out of most convictions and the conviction that led to his impeachment and disbarment was related to a sex case, go figure.

I thought his impeachment was about 'perjury',,, consentual sex is not a crime,, it was the 'lying' that supposedly outraged people and lead to the impeachment,,,

probably impromptu ,

'It is just wonderful to be back in Oregon. And over the last 15 months we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in fifty.....seven states; I think one left to go. One left to go. Alaska and Hawaii I was not allowed to go even though I really wanted to visit but my staff would not justify it."

I would take that as a potential mistake out of fatigue ( months of traveling on the campaign trail)

doing the math, I would think fifty came to mind first because of the fifty states, and then seven because he may have thought he said forty and one more to go would make 48 plus the two he couldnt go to would make 50.
