Working as a truck driver, travelling across America, I see and hear a lot of negative things, especially about truckers. I just want to say that America runs on 18 wheels, everything you buy on the shelves in stores, the gas you put in your car/SUV and the food you eat is all delivered by a truck driver. I know there are some idiot truck drivers out there, but believe me there are a greater number of idiot Car/SUV drivers out there too.

People need to understand that pulling in front of an 18 wheeler, which is effectively and 80,000 pound battering ram is very dangerous and very stupid, we cannot stop those things on a dime.

Also I know that truckers are sometimes viewed as dirty, smelly individuals... Not true, believe me. My truck and I have the highest standards of hygeine and I would be proud for anyone to look inside of mine and see for themselves.

So my questions is what do you think of truckers in general?

Grew up in this industry, been driving since 14, legal or not.
Like everything there are good & bad amongst the drivers out there. Compared to the 50-60's, the overall quality of drivers is down. I have dealt with alot of what I call hearders, they can aim a truck down the road, but NOT drive to MY safe standards. But then most car drivers are in the same boat.
We need to make driving a privledge & a skill again; not what seems a right of anyone over 16.

I think they are individuals, like every other professional. I'm thankful for them! As a matter of a fact, I flashed a trucker for the first time about a month ago. Hey, what can I say, I was feeling playful, and he looked bored...there for a second....teehee....

I agree withyou one huindred percent on that Sage. I have absolutely nohthing against truck drivers in general, and a lot of respect and good will towards several individual drivers.
As you and Beau both stated there are some idiots out there, more now than there used to be, but the same thign is not only true but more so with personal vehicles.

Driving used to be a priviledge, that could be taken away fromyou if warranted, now thanks to a lot of civil ilberties unions, and activists, it is more of a right and almost impossible to remove. Even if you are convicted of driving under the influence, you can still get your license back after so many MONTHS, automatically.

Back to the topic though, I works ecurity for a fuel refilling station. Thus I know quite a few truckers personally and have met even more (over three hundred in the past five months). There is ONE that I do not like. He is always surly and aggressive and does not want to follow procedure (security check in) when he is fueling up. I have had to report him more than once, the last time because he tried to threaten me. This guy is the exception however. There are several that I have the greatest respect for, one being a 78 year old man who came out of retirement in order to make ends meet.

back in 97 I was rained on by a driver with a sugar beet load who lost his tarp. I ended up with a speeding ticket cause I chose to speed past him, this being the safest option I had at the time, or continue getting sugar beets dropped on my windshield. The cop saw him raining sugar beets down on the road and cars, and let him go by while ticketing me, even seeing the dents on my hood.

I have also seenmore thasn one trucker stop on the side of the road to help someone who was broke down, or in trouble. And I have seen them team together to help a cop pull someone over as they "boxed" the car being chased in and forced him to slow as they slowed down.

So, yes I have a great deal of respect for drivers in general, and offer my heart felt thanks to all who obey the rules of the road and go out of their way to be MODEL citizens. May you all enjoy the peace and satasfaction of a job well done.

I have nothing against Truck Drivers, Ive dated a few and you always do here neagative things about them I dont know why. I guess it depends on how you carry yourself. I think its alot of fun going all over the place You get to experince so many diffrent things and all the diffrent places you go. AMAZING! I loved it when I was off roading, but I personally wouldnt do it as a profession, I just want to go to spend time with him...

I actually have respect for them. My farther owned a couple trucks. The stories he would tell me were nuts. I went with him on a couple rides. OMG the things ppl do.
My dad also has high morals so I do not see truck drivers as low class ppl.

I work for a Freightliner dealership......so I'm around truckers all the time..........and from what I've seen, and heard......I would say there are only 5 percent of truckers who don't take care of themselves, or their trucks. If I ever break down, I would feel safer it a trucker was the one to help me out.
