I'm not good at meeting and talking to random strangers, unless it's somewhere where I know we'll have something in common(or at least something interesting to talk about) like comic shops, books stores, conventions.

I don't really understand why people want to sit in the corner, frowning all the time.

would you rather i walk up to you and start crying?

It IS sexier...I got a far better shot at humping a crying woman than a completely self-controlled woman. I am pretty sure there are scientific studies about this.

.......so yeah...crying is good.

What do you do to meet new people? Do you get involved in activities you enjoy and meet people that way? Do you meet new people through friends? Do you solely meet people through sites like this?

Right now I am meeting them in college...it takes all my time (class then homework).

Those of you who don't meet new people.. why? I can't imagine not wanting to meet new people at least once in a while.

well the desire can be there,
but the ability,
not so much.
have you heard of social anxiety?
a lot of people who hang out in the interwebs have this.
and sure hiding behind a computer doesn't help any,
but i don't see how me crying in front of you would help me either.
:p

Not really and I don't go out of my way to meet people either. I know people my age are out and about but Im more the girl sitting in the corner of the room writing down my thoughts.

Why not get out and meet people?

I don't need to go out of my way to meet people. I'm surrounded by all kinds of people at my work. If I go out with friends, I'm open to it. But I won't just get out there JUST to meet people. For me it always happens by accident. And I like it that way.

I meet new people everyday at my work, I am always open to new friendships as I am a very sociable person, but I mostly hang with friends I have known a long time.

I meet new people all the time - I have a "Ask for help sign here" hovering over my head, so if anybody walking by, needs help, they stop and ask me. LOL. I meet people through work, and I take classes for my hobbies and meet people there. I love people.

I know people all over the world, too, so if I go visiting, chances are I will run into someone I knowbigsmile

On the other hand, I can be terribly shy when I'm first meeting people, especially in a *staged* social setting, like attending a wedding where I don't know anybody, or flying plane/riding bus. Sometimes I prefer to keep to myself. It's easier.

I can see where you're coming from. Initial contact can be VERY anxiety provoking. frustrated I had a lot of trouble with that when I was a child.

I used to be very shy when I was younger. I never started conversations with people I didn't know and didn't even talk a whole lot around people I did know. I have gotten over that, though. I never got anywhere by being shy, so I made myself start talking to people more. I'm much better around strangers now.

It's not really about saying what you think they want to hear. That often seems insincere. Find something you actually like about them, say hi and try to start a conversation around that.
