I think this whole thread is a conspiracy. tongue2

Psychiatrists are often people who are attracted to the profession because they themselves have a mental problem, or someone in their family does.

Psychologists, are people who think they are normal and everyone else is dysfunctional and they think they can "help" the dysfunctional ones.

I assume you have some data which you can run statistical analysis on to support this claim . . . or is this just pulled right out of your ***?

I'm aware of no published studies or even anecdotal reports that Psychiatrists are more likely to "go crazy" as a function of their work. There IS a high rate of depression and suicide amongst Psychiatrists but it is generally believed to be pre-morbid to their career choice, ie, not related to their work.

The head psychiatrist at the Colorado State Hospital used to frequent a tavern where I tended bar. My boss asked me to go meet him and then come back and tell me what I thought about him just from a brief meeting.

I met him briefly and guessed that he was probably an out patient at the State Hospital. Turns out he was the head psychiatrist.

Six months later, he killed himself.

A lot of materialists will scream that psychics are frauds and there is no such thing as a genuine psychic person.

They are wrong plain and simple.

I think psychiatry is a total fraud and they don't cure anything. I've never gone to a psychiatrist and I never will.

If you are depressed, you should eat cashews and take B vitamins and exercise for a cure.

A fist full of cashews is equal to a prozac but without side effects.

Most all drugs don't cure anything. Psychiatrists don't effect cures either.

They mostly just prescribe mind or mood altering drugs.

Its bullchit pseudo science.

Antibiotics definitely cure infections, but pain killers don't cure anything. Most OTC drugs simply treat symptoms and don't cure anything. Many prescriptions drugs also treat symptoms, so they can't be properly called a cure. Example: Viagra doesn't cure ED, it simply alleviates the symptoms for a short time. Oncologists generally won't say that cancer can be cured, it can only be treated. There is always a chance of a relapse. I think what you said could be factually true (although I don't think you and I are looking at it from the same angle), but it would take an incredible amount of work to determine if it's actually true or not.

No I don't. They are both pseudo science.

Wiki:
"The term was first coined by the German physician Johann Christian Reil in 1808, and literally means the 'medical treatment of the mind."

Materialists can't treat mind. There is only the brain. laugh tongue2

Like the soul or the spirit, you cannot prove that "mind" exists. Only "brain."

Therefore any treatment of "mind" is as much pseudo science as materialists claim treatment of the soul or spirit would be.

The mind is the brain. Reductive materialist like me see them as the same without need for distinction. Some materialist see a distinction, but not one that would invalidate materialism.

I hope this helps you understand . . .

I KNOW that YOU think the mind and the brain are the same thing. But that is not true and not possible.

If the mind and the brain were the same thing, then you could save your brain after you die and keep it alive artificially and you would still be conscious and thinking and still be the same person. and still have the same memories as you did when you had a body.

Also, if that were true, and a mind and brain were the same thing, then if science learned to transplant a brain into another body, do you think that the person who had used that brain previously would still be conscious and have all their memories and knowledge as they did when their brain was in a previous body?

Would the person be transferred with the brain?

I highly doubt it.

The materialist notion of mind is possibly too limited for a general philosophical discourse. It would be extremely difficult to discuss topics that involve metaphysical, ontological, and phenomenological accounts of mind. A purely materialist understanding of mind would simply evade these topics. More exotic fields of knowledge, such as theology, religion, and parapsychology do not harmonise with the scientific view of mind either. Hence, we shall postpone further attempts to define mind and as yet allow the largest possible meaning of the word, perhaps in the sense of the German word "Geist", which means both mind and spirit.

What is mind?

The brain is part of the physical makeup of man..and

is the seat of the MInd.

But the brain is NOT the mind.

The mind is of the soul..and includes the will, emotions, and

thoughts of man.

Man is a triune being...physical, soul, and spirit.

I totally agree. To say that the brain and mind are the same thing is silly.

If that were the case you could save my brain and transplant it into another body and I (me) would go along with it and have a new body.

I don't think I would want to take that chance.

How sure are you Bushidobillyclub? Would you transplant your brain into another body? How sure are you that your mind is the same as your brain?

I believe that your mind resides in your brain. So if your brain were transplanted into a new body, it still be you.

Would you take that chance and transplant your brain if your body was completely shot?
