What do you think is worse on a first date? No physical attraction, or absolutely nothing to talk about? Why?

Nothing to talk about. Silence is a killer for me. Even if there was no physical attraction, being able to talk could at least allow you to become good friends and have fun discussing common interests.

Nothing to talk about. Even if there's no physical attraction, there's still opportunity for a friendship, but without anything to talk about, that leaves us with nothing to work with. Even if there was physical attraction, but nothing to talk about, I couldn't work with that. I'm not the type of person to go for purely sexual relationships.

I agree.....nothing to talk about.
Physical attraction is sometimes sparked by intellegent conversation and or witty repartee'

Personally, good conversation is attractive to me. To each their own though.

Oh man, if she turns out to be uglier than her picture it's the absolute pits.

If she's good looking I don't care if she's a deaf mute.

Depends. If there's 'enough' physical attraction on the first date there just may be something to talk about on the second date.....

If there's nothing beyond being attractive, there's not going to be a second date for me.

You'd be surprised. I stole the question from another site and there are a lot of people who say physical attraction.

Well, there you go B. There is one who thinks physical attraction is more important. :)

To answer my own question, having nothing to talk about would be worse. Even if I'm not attracted to them, we can still get through the date if there are things to talk about.

At least for me, with a blind date as about the only exception, I generally talk to the person for a while before deciding on going out with them. So, to pass that test there'd have to be something more than just physical attraction in the first place (which is more important). Never know if it was just a bad day, or 'first date shyness', or ???????, so a little optimism can pay off.

Unfortunately, sitting through a date where the person only wants to talk about Star Trek and nothing else kills all optimism. laugh

Nah. I let him talk about it for a bit, but when he continued, I let him know that I really know nothing about Star Trek and tried to steer the conversation in another direction. He kept going back to it, though. It became quite obvious that we had nothing to talk about.

Yeah, well...... but, there was still SOMETHING to talk about. Even if it turned into a debate about whether or not it sucks. laugh

Not really. He talked, I listened, then tried to steer it in another direction which did not work. So no, even with some effort, I couldn't get him to talk about anything else.
