I know this guy that has a VERY sick dog, the dog has cancer, can't see out of one eye, has arthritis and it is extremely painful to walk or move. This guy makes her go for at least 3 one mile walks a day with him. Now I love all kinds of animals and I think that if he really loved the dog, he should do the right thing and put her out of her misery. What do you all think? Im NOT trying to be mean and maybe its NONE of MY business but as a animal lover,I'm just asking..

you should interfer as the dog is in pain and he shouldnt be running at all
my sister and brother nlaw had a golden lab as where she developed cancer in her leg they did much as they could for her. but they never made her do **** that wasent ment to be to cause more pain.. you should report this person to animal shelter as i feel this can be more like abuse towards animalsad mad

Hey Queenie...flowerforyou

To me cruelty to animals is no different then Child abuse.
We are always saying MY PET IS MY KID....
huh huh huh huh huh huh
Would you let your CHILd suffer? I dont think so so why let the animal?
Its sad but Im working on resolving the matter..
Thx for your input!! bigsmile

Sheryl, I agree with you completely. As an animal lover myself, I understand that people can be reluctant to let go, even in the worst of cases, but part of loving a pet is not wanting them to suffer.

If we, as people, were in a situation where we were terminally ill and in constant agonizing pain, and wanted to end our lives, we would likely consider someone trying to make us linger as cruel and unfeeling. So it is here with this man and his poor dog. She can't express her pain the way we could, and that makes it even worse. If he loves her, he must put the end to her pain and suffering above his own needs....

thats bulls*** if the dog was/is his best friend he needs to put him out of his misery. i hate people like that. probly let his parents suffer too. turn him into animal control

well if "lucky" is not suffering(pending vet advice) that's fine
but if the dog is suffering then sadly yes- take the lil pooch and have it humanely euthenized .

the dog in question is beside me, she goes to the vet twice a month for a check up and meds and walks 2 miles a day. Should people with cancer and lost an eye to the chemo be put to sleep? she runs, has a great appitite and has her vets blessing to get that exercise!!!!! dont be judgemental till the facts are known, the vet says she got another good year or two left in her and shes treated Simba for 7 years!!!

And how do u "make a dof walk 3 miles, drag her? does that make any sense? And We see animal control in the neighborhood often, do u think if she was that sick they wouldnt notice, we often talk t them about stray dogs in the nieghborhood. I understand u good folks concern, but she is happy and in NO pain or is she suffering in any way!!!

Are we talking about the same dog here? Sheryl's comment that the dog "has arthritis and it is extremely painful to walk or move" doesn't match up with "she runs, has a great appitite and has her vets blessing to get that exercise" --

This doesn't sound like the same dog to me!

Well thats my dog I discribed, does it make sense tht u cn "make" a dog walk 3 miles? dont u think if she was suffering family, friends and nieghbors would notice? I promise if she was suffering in ANY way i would put her down, and rely on her Vet for input!

I agree...he needs to do the right thing and end the dogs pain..That's a true act of love and kindness...AND my god the dog is in pain and he is still making it walk 3 times a day...NOW that's cruel!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you should talk to the guy and tell him for the pet's sake to put him out of his misery, humanly. I can't see anyone making a dog walk when it's in pain, that's terrible!!

Mikey...if your dog isn't in pain and suffering then that's good...However the dog that was described is in pain and suffering so being put down is probably the best thing a person could do out of love for that particular dog!!!!!!!!

I understand I would put her down in a second if thats what I thought and the vet thought!!! she is 14 years old so she has slow down some, but come on, how in the world do u make a dog walk 3 miles? and sont u think people around her would notice if shes in that bad of shape. that just doesnt make sense! the person that made the accusation has never seen the dog, only knows that I told her she was being treated for a tumor. simba can still see a squirrel a block away and loves to chase them!!

It would be better if he just left the dog at home and let it live out it's days in peace and comfort. I would tell him that much. But the hardest thing as a pet lover is to let one of your own pets go, even tho you know its for the best, the pain and emotion involved is so intense that its hard to even think straight.

i don't believe in euthanasia. i also have pretty severe arthritis...and the BEST thing for it is exercise.

if i skip a day and don't move around much...the next day, the pain is severe. if i exercise and move around a whole bunch...i feel a hundred times better for it.

I worked at an animal shelter and love animals very much.
As an animal lover, it is hard for some people to *let go* .
But it is much more humane to let them go, rather than to let them suffer!!!
Just my opinion!

Thank you to the person that informed me that this thread was up as they know that I am an animal lover as well. First off, I don't remember reading WHO the dog was owned by. AS a matter of fact, I read it twice and there was no name of the owner nor the animal. So it could be ANYONE'S animal. It could be a neighbor of her's, or her cousin's dog, you never know without names stated, and that was not done here.

All I can say is that I really feel sorry for the animal. With everything that it's going through, I think that this person is really being selfish and not doing the right thing.

I just had to come back and voice my own opinion on this very sad and celf centered topic.

well not knowing the whole story i am not gonna judge.I do know exercise is great for rheumatoid arthritis and helps you beat cancer also.I'm sure if the dog couldn't run 3 miles, the dog would stop.I m also pretty sure if the dog has cancer and other ailments ,the dog is having regular visits with the vet. That being said ,not having a vet report or the owner's side of the story,I am going to refrain from second guessing the owner.
