Obama-Bush Stimulus “Saved Us From A Depression”: Arlen Specter

"Regardless of who is elected president, if Congress is gridlocked nothing will happen in Washington," Specter tells The Daily Ticker. And there are many issues that require Congressional attention, including the expiration of the Bush tax cuts and the $1.2 trillion in automatic spending reductions that will all take effect by year end if Congress does nothing. Specter spent 30 years in Washington as a senator from Pennsylvania, most of them as a Republican. But after he voted for the president's stimulus plan in 2009 — "the single most important vote of 10,000" he notes — Specter switched to the Democratic Party, setting the stage for the end of his political career. He recounts it all in his new book Life Among The Cannibals. Specter hasn't endorsed a candidate for the presidential election. He's critical of Mitt Romney's constant position shifts and says the former Massachusetts governor doesn't have a plan to revive the economy. But Specter says President Obama hasn't had much success with the economy either and should explain why he didn't follow through on recommendations from the Simpson-Bowles commission to cut the deficit. Unlike Romney, Specter supports the stimulus plans of Presidents Obama and Bush which together injected about $1.5 trillion into the economy. Those programs "saved us from a depression" says Specter. President Obama hasn't had much success because the Republicans in Congress have opposed virtually every bill proposed by the Democrats. I'll do my part to correct that problem by voting a straight Democratic ticket this yeat.

What a joke! Bankrupting America helps? The stimulus was like shooting someone to make them quit feeling a headache! What a philosophy! Create more debt to try to cure debt! Then to add insult to injury, they give the bailouts NOT TO THE PEOPLE (the ones injured by the mess) to put the money where it would actually help, OH NO.... they give it to the very people who profitted by trillions from the bubbles THEY created, foolishly and lavishly rewarding themselves, then crying when the money is gone from their own malinvestment! Oh yeah! The stimulus was a great idea......if you are the FED or some other banker or crony wall street capitalist! |

Bush and Obama both should have let the banks fall. it would have hurt a little more than things do now but it still would not be as bad as the real depression. Another thing that could have been done is the government could have kept all that money and took over those banks, fired all the CEO's and sent the shareholders packing then when down the road when things turn around the government could sell those banks to investors. |

It's the people, the voters, who are so disengaged that they vote for the same scum bag every year. It's the voters who believe the politicians lies who are at fault.
