Considering what just happened yesterday, I'm suddenly much more nervous about making friends on this site. Anyone else feel the same way?

No, this is a safe site despite what has happened. Unfortunately, it's something that happens far too often online. Mingle2 takes our safety very seriously, and they have demonstrated that in how they handled it. I feel safer here than on any other dating/social site to be honest.

This is why it's so important to meet someone at a public restaurant, etc. Get to know them a little face to face. If you get bad vibes then act on them. Usually that's your red flag telling you to RUN!!

Considering what just happened yesterday, I'm suddenly much more nervous about making friends on this site. Anyone else feel the same way? no, I generally just chat online so it poses no harm to me. If I were going to consider an in person with anyone online, I would do a background check anyway and I look for red flags and follow my gut about SUSPICIOUS interests or requests in this case, the person was animate about avoiding CHILDREN, so I dont feel I would be in danger there either of course others may specifically ASK about children repeatedly, which sends up a red flag for me as well |

Don't let one bad apple spoil the whole crop. get rid of the bad apple, and be sure that all the tainted apples are taken care of as well.
I met my husband on here. I have met som of my closest friends on here. I was one of the ones who spoke to "Lex" frequently, and although I feel betrayed by him, I also know that I have security measures in place to protect myself and my family from people such as him. I don't blame Mingle for his actions, and at least Mingle had the decency to TELL US and Alert us to what had happened... other social networking cites that he was on deleted his profile and swept the entire thing under the rug. At least Mingle was open, honest, and have created a plan of action to do their best to avoid the situation in the future.

Just because there's no mentioning of something, doesn't mean proper actions are not taken. I don't announce everything that goes on on my sites, but I do make sure to protect my clients and users. I appreciate Mingle2 for bringing the issue to out attention and reminding us of how close danger can be lurking at times, especially online. I certainly would have banned him and taken action to prevent such from happening again. I'm not so sure I would make a topic of such though. Not to say I think Mingle2 did anything wrong at all or anything though. |

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply that no action was taken. I KNOW that appropriate action was taken on some other cites. I just ment that at least mingle made us aware of it, in order to make sure that all memebers were safe. My bad.. bad wording on my part.

I just wanted mention that a website may be doing much more than you think or realize, even if they don't talk about it. Some sites wouldn't have done anything, unless he violated their rules though. I wouldn't want anything to do with sites like that. Yes, we are all responsible for our own safety and making sure who we talk to online is safe. I also feel that when you create social sites (or any other website), you have responsibilities and obligations to make sure your members can use the services you provide safely. I'm glad that Mingle2 feels the same way, and shows it. |
