laugh laugh laugh Being a single parent sucks, I had 6 children and it was hard, but it gets easier, half mine have grown and all are my best friends, every struggle is worth it.
Just treat them with respect, love them and be firm, you really cant go wrong.
Remeber that saying your sorry or that you where wrong doesnt hurt,

No brag. Just fact.

I was one of the first males to actually win custody of kids in court.
Men were discriminated against.

The courts generally, automatically, gave custody to the woman. They believed, as with Support Enforcement, kids belong with the Mother.

Support Enforcement didn't help me collect support. She was military and it could have been deducted. They told me the kids belonged with the mother. There was really no way to sue them for discrimination.

I won because my attorney convinced the judge I was the better alternative. He didn't bash the Mother. He just showed she was just not in a stable place and couldn't properly care for them.

PS
That all happened in the mid 70's.
My kids are way old now.laugh

I guess I had a great support system because I never really thought being a single parent was hard. I guess the hardest time was in 04 when I got Cancer but my Mom was a great help to me.
My last son at home is getting ready to graduate mid-term this next week from high school. He is 18 and my oldest son is 24. Would I have any more...absolutely not!!! I guess I will wait for the grand-babies!!!

It gets easier, well kind of lol.
Kids like structure and rules.
They will bend them of course and sometimes you let them win and sometimes you dont.

Just keep raising the bar, make sure they are happy and have a fairly relaxed attitude and you wont go far wrong.

Its hard at the beginning but the way you are with them will rub off on them pretty quickly.

There is one thing for sure though, if done right it will be the most rewarding thing in your life.

Before my son, all I cared about was promotions and earnings.

One smile or laugh off my son is better than anything I could have done.

Fortunately, he laughs all the time. Its a great feeling seeing a kid happy. Even when you think you are doing rubbish, you realise that you must be doing something right.

Every parent in the world has doubts sometimes. Even your mum would have. That is what makes a good parent. You always want to improve

They are pretty easy until they turn into teens.

The reason for a parent being single can be a factor in the difficulty of being a single parent. In my case, I am a widower with a son age 12.

It also makes a difference if you have family/friends around to help you. If you are literally trying to do it all on your own, that can be challenging and stressful. My experience has been that even though I want my child to come first, I have to take care of myself, too.

All the best!
