i am not stupid, very smart actually but believe me it's hard to try and keep abreast of the world and worry about keeping your kids clothed ,fed and gas in your car.Besides the obvious,I would like to know what the f@#$k i am supposed to do about Bush?Congress ignores it's constituency,Bush is drunk with power and all I can do is pray that the Earth lasts until 2008 so I can vote someone in who can see the forest for the trees.(hopefully).Everybody *****es at the American public but some of us are busy keeping our head above water.the american dream?HA!!

Left Wing Bias in the Media, Dan Rather running with a story about Bushe's national guard service that was a complete fabrication without checking the accuracy of the source. That led to his eventual retirement.

Forge, the Guard story was never conclusively proven one way or the other. CBS "cut and ran" instead of investigating further. That's not an example of liberal bias, that's an example of lousy reporting, and throwing your sources under the bus.

But, worlds of credit for trying.

P.S.: As lousy as CBS's ratings are now(and did anyone honestly expect anything else with Katie Couric?), I'd bet they'd take Rather back in a heartbeat, given the chance.

A guy in England a few years back went up to his local Member of Parliaments house when this topic was raised and said.
'Do you belive in free speech?'
The man said ''Yes. I Do.'
The guy replied,
'Good. Can I use your telephne!"bigsmile glasses

I'd rather not have Rather back. He had some other issues I disagreed with besides the infamous blunder. Generally I consider his reporting to be so biased as to be incredible. Slant isn't fact necessarily but in the case of a national media figure it is taken as such. I think he did a lot of harm to American freedom and perception in the world. So far as I know Couric never went so far.

To be honest, I don't want Rather back, either. I was just using that as an example to show how far CBS's ratings have fallen under Couric. Bottom line, the news is a ratings game first and foremost. I actually don't like CBS news at all, not for any one person that works there, but for the fact they do incomplete and downright lousy reporting on a regular basis.

Dang, I so want to respond, but I'm late for an appt. I'll be back, until then, -- those of you, who are taking exception to bl8ants comments, look around you, talk to everyday people about economics in other countries, about how others live, about other countries beliefs and political views. Then ask yourself the same questions. Now, take a look at what you would be aware of if it were not for these forums that we all discuss on. It takes people of many varied origins to color a bigger picture for us. I agree with her views, for as a whole that is what we look like to the world. It is up to those who want to change that world view, to make a difference. Reinforcing what you said is not proof of validity. When our President reinforces his actions with words, it does not make the actions any more appropriate.

Yeah, right -
- Don't anyone "threaten" Bush's bringing of "stability" and "humanitarian aid" to Iraq.. Let's see.. between both Bush's and
Clinton, we must have humanitarianly aided almost two million
of their civilians to death.

You know, Gardenforge, there's such a thing as cause and effect.
Wishing other peoples children blown up might not bode well for
yours. Nor will killing large numbers of people make you any safer - quite the contrary. People generally take a dim view of being killed and they have relatives who're often revenge minded.
Iraq did'nt attack us on 911 (nor, for that matter did Afghanistan), so what makes you think large swaths of their civilian population should be killed? And don't say: "Saddam", because we support worse dictators than him all the time.

that's right cbx we should all sit around in a circle singing Kumbya and all the radical muslims will be our friends. These people see any concession as a sign of weakness and exploit it. They have no qualms about killing you or anybody else because you do not share their beliefs. Any country that shelters or aids terrorists is part of the problem. They can only operate when they have a safe haven to operate from. If we follow your philosophy it will result in more attacks on U.S. Soil and you will be the first one in line screaming "why didn't the government do something to protect us".
