I am an artist and very individualized. I think I am very openminded however sometimes people say I can be close minded and I totally disagree. I think being very abstract can confuse people.

What do you think? I think artists can be both but more on the open minded side of things. Just merely misunderstood. Often times artists are labeled as close minded when in fact they are just misunderstood and it takes a pretty open mind to create original ideas. IMO.

Simone! flowerforyou

Closed minded = Always sticking to the same artistic medium.

Open Minded = not staying in your artistic comfort zone.

I'm not sure if it's a good way of looking at it but it's my take on open/closed minded artists.

Artistic and close minded are not things I really ever hear together. So, I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I also have to disagree with John that sticking to the same medium is close minded.

Art is the physical rendering of a mood or feeling.

How well you do that tells how good of an artist you are.

What moods or feeling you choose to render tells where your mind is at.

I thought so too, that is why I am confused when I hear statements like that an artist is close minded. I don't see how anyone who is close minded can have an artistic expression at all.

haha.
i'm closed-minded.
i'm very stubborn.
i like what i like,
and i don't care for what others have to say the majority of the time.
my art is very selfish.
i won't try new things because others tell me to do it.
i do what i want when i want.
this sounds insanely immature,
but i don't understand what someone else's input has anything to do with my ideas and creations.
i think when someone says that as an artist you're closed-minded it means that you're not listening to what others have to say to you,
and i say kudos.
**** the traditionalists.

At times we get tunnel vision, I do anyhow. Close minded? Far from it, but that would depend on the artist. I know I get misunderstood frequently, but I am not interested in people pleasing :-)

I think I am just misunderstood a lot. And probably ignored. If people actually listened to one another I think more people are open minded than close minded and artists often think outside the box, closed box closed mind? Open mind-outside the box? Idk.

Well maybe you have a big imagination and have vision, and those who you think don't listen or understand aren't open minded to you? If its your vision or imagination telling the story, you have to teach some how to interpret your thinking, or open mindedness... For them to get it. You have to sell your idea?

I am both open and closed minded within different forms of art. Some ideas are for sale, and some are not...

Many artist think there misunderstood that's quit come. As for being ignored their are many artist out there and it takes something unique to catch an individuals eye. Your post photo if you drew that looks good on screen.

Find an art centre that puts on shows for local artists near you. You need to find a group of individuals that enjoy, respect, understand and admire's your artistic ability.

Example: Tiny French Bikini Back To You Ladies, We Lost Another Good Man Today

These are examples of art that catch peoples' eye that are unique and excite people or mean something to people. Don't give up or you will lose. Find someone who you finds excitment in your art forms. It takes time and ask family and friends. Be yourself and clean; it may go farther.

Everyone enjoy's art not everyone can afford a big price tag.

I'm shocked! surprised laugh flowerforyou

The label "close minded" Isn't negative in the artistic world as in RL... We're not talking intransigence here... I was talking about how they choose to display that expression, and sticking to one method that works for you is NOT a negative thing. My ex for example, could pick up a six string and a cello or sit at a piano no prob... she could draw a caricature of you in 15 minutes that you'd want to cherish forever and she was a professional ballroom dancer. Like seriously talented in ALL art forms.

I consider myself VERY VERY opened minded in my daily life

But not in my art  I tried.... I suck at every other artistic medium. That's ok... ppl still love what I'm good at laugh ohwell

Maybe a better word to describe what you're talking about would be versatile? I don't think it has anything to do with being open or close minded.

Yes, you can be open minded and "open" to trying new things but still also suck at them or dislike them. For instance food. Just because you do not like something such as a piece of art or say Indian food, (which I do like:wink: ) does not make you closed minded, just particular in your tastes. I think artists are more open minded to viewing and trying things than say a non-artistic type. I do not believe everyone is an artist.

Maybe you should try an Advertising firm. It's a great way to practice, but also you can keep the best for personal use. Remember anything you create at work belongs to your employer "It part of buisness Law".

I know and i hate that. I've been ripped off before and now I do my own freelance. Creative Commons is a good way to protect your IP.

Ask the adverting department of firms' that you may be interested in creating something for; for a meeting. Its' normal in the business world to address management for appointments; its' call informational interviews'.

It maybe a way to be self-employed at the same time developing and expaning your business.

I really do think artistic people are more open-minded. I've spent time with many. They remain committed to art. That never changes. Some of my friends used me as part of their portrait or photigraph collection. I'd just feel a bit leery getting naked for a portrait painting. laugh. Many of my friends back home studied art as their main subject in College/University. I also love art. I regret losing my paint mixer. It was like a lava lamp, where the colours would constantly run into each other. It would rain paint instead of lava.

I took, freehand, 2d and 3d art in college, mainly studied advertising and designs which I loved, because I love writing and designing. Very fun.
