How do you know that person is the one for you? In my case, the one for me won't discriminate against me because I am a Melmacian or because I masquerade as a white male human.

Don't believe in the soul or soul-mates. But apparently I've found at least one, according to charts and astrologers and numerologists and all that jazz. Apparently it means that your life turns into a goddamned country song eventually.

People can (and do) change over time. Relationships need tending like a garden. I try to enjoy and be thankful whether its a day/week/month/year/ decade/ lifetime

I don't - I think it's pretty much all one big guessing game till we die I think it being mutual is of course one practical parameter and then just go day by day if he is the one for you, many years from now you will still be going day by day I recommend the day by day approach even after a commitment is made because I think it prevents people from taking each other for granted which sometimes happens once a commitment is in place

You have to think positive, if he doesn't take you for who you are; then that is a problem that could cause issues later on in the relationship.
