I could hardly believe what I read on this blog. Please tell me it isn't so! Is it just a nutty conspiracy theory, or are American gun "laws" about to become as draconian as Canadian gun "laws"...

" you would be grandfathered in under the current proposal and may legally own it until your death, so long as you have your original receipt. Under Sen. DiFi’s proposal, your heir’s BIRTHRIGHT MUST BE SURRENDERED TO THE GOVERNMENT! It would be a violation of law to bequeath it to your children or spouse."

In other words, even if you are fortunate enough to hang on to the bill of sale all your life, the guns have to be surrendered to the State after your death, as that property CANNOT be transferred as a bequest of your property in your will. They could not do that if the gun were your property, because your right to your property is absolute. Therefore...your registered guns are NOT your property; they belong to the government, who will hold legal title to them, and who will let you possess them ONLY on THEIR TERMS! Since the guns are GOVERNMENT PROPERTY, you will have to surrender them whenever they choose to demand them.

The source is irrelevant.

It is a simple fact that any property you "register" is not your property. You only have "ownership" in equity and the "owner" is liable to the registeree, who has legal title to the property and the right to tell the registerer what is to be done with it.

You effectively turned your property over to a "parent", who then allows you the privilege of possession IF you don't break any of his rule's regarding the property. If you do, then the only liability the "parent" might have to you on the property is to compensate you for your loss in some way if he takes it away from you altogether.

It is a source of utter amazement to me that people register things with their government, in particular, their marriages (making the state a third party) or their children (The cars & guns are bad enough)

I hate to register things with the government. I don't see why I should have to do that at all.... with anything.

I know I don't "have to" get married, so I will never do that again. ---At least not with the STATE'S PERMISSION.

I refuse to register my business, and luckily in this town, you don't have to. But if you want a bank account in the name of your business you have to register the business with the State before the bank will give you an account, so a long time ago I decided my business name would be my own legal name.

Sure, why not? Its possible. It's reverse psychology. Often when you tell the truth so as to make it appear to be sarcasm, people won't believe it.

I believe it, I heard DiFi a couple of days ago say that "We don't to take anybodies hunting rifle..." Well I hunt with an M44 and sometimes my AK47, so she is a liar. Lots of people out here hunt with "military style ASSAULT weapons". The looney left is out of control, so when they say we don't want to take away anyone's hunting rifles red flag should pop up. Ol slick Willy, Reno and Gore told us the same thing, then they added that if a gun can be altered to fit more ammo than it was originally intended it will be considered and assault weapon. Well, your grandpas 30 0 6 can be equipped to accept a magazine that can hold as much ammo as a magazine can be built to hold.

In her ignorant Opinion, any Firearm that could fire more than one Round is an Assault-Weapon!
Reason they are pushing the Envelope,is so they can get the most of restrictive anti-Gun Legislation!

Of course, but compare the language of the proposal to that of the OP, and the hyperbole and hysteria becomes apparent. Note how a paranoia site employed prosaic fear-mongering to inflame the very passions we are seeing in this thread. Remember, it is only a proposal and it is not immune from being amended, nor altered. I'm sure you recognise the procedures, therefore this bill will debated endlessly taking into account the interests of various lobby groups and constituents before being ratified by the appropriate house. You're one of the more intelligent individuals on Mingle, therefore, you must be aware of how these stories are sensationalised long before they are even voted upon.

if you don't own the largest purchase most people make why would you expect anything different

owning property is a falsehood in any state that has a property tax

you are only renting it if you don't believe it stop paying your property tax

even tho the constitution outlaws having titled nobility the property tax makes the tax assessor the lord of the land reason being if you do no pay the tribute to the lord of the land you will be removed from said land

but hey what do i know

oh yeah

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8.

No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States:

and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

No wonder they want to get rid of the constitution and the bill of rights.

H.R.M. King Barak I...KInda has a ring to it doncha think? The only thing to figure out now is whether the coronation will be by the Pope, the Archbishop of Canterbury, or the millions upon million of people who would personally like to "crown" him.
