Yes this is a totally pointless question. It can go into circles if you watch it. But really where does the mutation happen for something new. The chicken or the egg. I am for the egg myself. What about you?

If I take it from a creation standpoint that God spoke and poof it happens, I would say the Chicken first. Not only by pointing out Adam and Eve but also the egg would need protection and a parent to teach it.

If I take it from an evolution standpoint, the parent would be first still. Yet it may not be what we call the modern chicken.

Either way, it’s the chicken.

Even if physically, (for the sake of argument) it was the egg, the egg would have had to represent an underdeveloped or developing stage of what would soon become the chicken. Therefore, at the very least, the concept or design of the chicken and final vision of the chicken must have pre-dated the egg.

Its like asking how did life start
Who came first? The baby or the parents
Oh so many unanswered questions to life

All creationism and science aside, common sense and nature dictate that the egg could only come first if it were incubated.

Duh! Egg wont survived without the parent. I am for chicken. Setting aside the creation.

All this talk about chicken and eggs is making me hungry. :tongue:

Something else I just thought about, we may be assuming that predators have not yet come or are forming at the same time as the chicken/egg. If a predators that feeds on eggs came first before said chicken egg, would that have kept the chicken from ever being born?

Oh cmon metalshadow theirs no predator here. If theres no chicken, theres no egg. (I will make now my chicken noodle soup with an egg.)

Ok I have the answer........

You see the chicken and the egg were in bed together
When all of a sudden the egg rolled off and started to smoke a cigarette
So the chicken looked at the egg and said.....
Well I guess we answered that question didn't we

ok take away the parent animal tending the egg. where does the mutation start is what I am getting at.

Mutations are caused by radiation from the sun. It effects DNA and causes mutations in future offspring. So, the parents I suppose because it's their DNA that's mutated even though they don't show the effects of the mutations, they still pass it along.

Another thing that happens is half the DNA comes from the mom and half from the dad. This creates a new and unique mix for each new offspring. So, again the parents.

@Conrad_73
Wasn’t there one of those on the old Garfield and Friends cartoon series?

@Usagibutt
If you are asking, “Which came first, the chicken or the egg,” it is taken, as did the parent come first or the offspring. Now the modern day chicken would have come after an egg was laid but the parents of said egg would have be first to create the egg, whether by evolution or mutation.

If you believe in evolution the single cell would have given birth enough time to create multi cell life form and they keep given birth that would lead up to the chicken.

If you believe in creationism, where God would have created the parents first with the knowledge on survival, much like Adam and Eve.

I still say the parental unit would be first.
