I'm not buy a new computer until Vista has all the tweaks worked out. I think it's unforunate that any new computer you buy has Vista on it and you don't get to choose whether you want it or not! It's just not fair! grumble grumble

yeah vista is cool.... the programs generally take 6 months to a year to catch up to the new OS. so dont sweat it.. and look for a patch from your WOW server for the vista OS.

Old Games:

I have had a lot of problems getting OLDER windows games to work under vista. A few months ago I found a bunch of old games on a hard drive I was cleaning up, and tried to play them on a dual boot vista/LinuxMint machine.

I agree with DayV - if you want it badly enough, you should be able to get almost anything to run, even if it means downloading an emulator. But Vista was a serious pain in the ass, and what I found via google for some of the games was "it won't work". (Which I don't believe, but it shows that other's had as much trouble as I did).

With LinuxMint i just copied'n'pasted some command line instructions off the net and was up and running those games within seconds.

Speed:

As far as speed the speed of Vista, different people have different expectations. I'm always amazed by the slow crawl that many windows users view as 'acceptable' or 'fast' - but what can you expect after the entire history of microsoft releasing inefficient, bloated software and expecting users to just pay for hardware upgrades??

When I was shopping for a new computer, i looked at over 2 dozen laptops priced under $1,000 at several stores, NONE of them ran vista at remotely acceptable speed. ALL of those I tested ran Ubuntu like lightening, and thats off a live-cd vs hard drive.

A lot of people agree with you - a lot of people would rather have bought their new computer preloaded with XP during early 2007, but had little choice.
