happy

In Cyber-Space, many tend to be someone (something) their not!
Chat situation ... most will say what they think you want to hear.

To meet & greet up close & personal, have real dates, old fashioned courtship, then the rubber meets the road!

They can love the person you seem to be. Or the type of person you seem to be. You have put yourself out there as a certain persona.
He may be "in love" with that persona. All people hold some things back, especially in written communications, intentionally or not.

I believe you can be madly in love. Your feelings are quite real. The problem is that the person, if only known to you online is your fantasy of who they are.

Even if they are not being deceptive, you have to get to know them all over again when you meet in person. You owe that to yourself/ves to do that. It may mean you have to grieve the loss of the online fantasy person.

Bravo! If fantasy person isn't willing to sit & chat over coffee at a public place, then I would declare him/her just that - fantasy!
