But to my brothers, sisters and families of the fallen, missing, veteran or presently serving, I offer my wish for peace this day, and my oath to never forget the sacrifice and bravery.

There are no winners in war, only victims, heroes and loss..

DC has its 1% who haunt the halls of power, waging war, but the 2% of us who serve/served can take pride in actually doing something in service to our beloved country.

On this day, OUR day, a day of remembrance.....

I salute you/us all! flowerforyou

I have great appreciation and sympathy for all who have sacrificed and or died for our country but to deny the role of war in our world is absurd. The MIC (military industrial complex)and those associated with it generate billions and billions of dollars! At least ten per cent of all working americans are involved in providing weapons, building ships planes, surveillance, personnel, communication,. suupplies, and others affiliations. The defense budget is so great and we never question its place in the national budget as it it funded by the politicians who are bought by the lobbyists who number seven to one in house and senate. Americans are being manipulated and lied to regarding war issues since we became a country. How quickly each president that i can recall was involved in some type military activity without the public knowledge. Remember Eisenhower said the US does not spy on the soviets and then Francis Gary Powers was caught flying his U-2 spy plane and shot down over USSR and was forced to parade down Red square, Viet Nam our boys were sent into Laos but were not authorized to. Kennedy sent several hundred american mercenaries to assassinate Castro but failed it was called the Bay of Pigs fiasco, Johnson escalated the war knowing it could not be won but did so anyway, Reagan had the arms deal to the Contra,Bush had the WMD deception, the first Bush orchestrated Saddams placement into power. The CIa has operated illegally in Chile and other countries to do as we wish regarding economic gains and plundered several others too. All these are political and financial moves that were to benefit american agendas and provided enormous funding for the government and its workers...So lets not forget that war is good business ...WE need to own the role of our government plays in warfare to advance economic and political agendas and not blindly listen to our elected officials who tell us what they want us to hear draped in god, country and alleged patriotism... Why are so few able to see and smell the stench of war?

Many of the vets give more than anyone else for our country. All vets give a lot. We should never forget the gratitude we owe those who answer the call to duty.

as a student of military history I know wars have been fought since the beginning of time.words are not the best thing in the world nor should they be condoned.people have fought wars over territory, racism, and even hatred.war is a part of life itself and a way for people to think they can dominate others.wars have a specially been fought in the name of freedom, for which are veterans and active duty foughtt and died for.that should be foremost in the mind of all people on this particular day and forever.

You are correct and unfortunately most people are not seekers of truth but followers who are either not interested, don't care, or not very intelligent and are complacent to just follow along with what they are told. We have far too many of these types in this country who just go with the flow rather than try to stand up for what's right. Thank you for being someone who's not one of the above. karen

PEACE is unfortunately the side effect of IMPASSABLE stalemate...
Still there is no right or wrong in wishing it so...

Hi Karenwavingflowerforyou
Weather one likes war or not, weather you can respect the ones that fought or refuse
but in the western hemisphere the soldiers gave
us every right we have,
including the right to say no.

Remember that private citizens whether rich or poor, whether businessmen or workers have no power to start a war. That power is the exclusive prerogative of a government. Which type of government is more likely to plunge a country into war: a government of limited powers, bound by constitutional restrictions or an unlimited government, open to the pressure of any group with warlike interests or ideologies, a government able to command armies to march at the whim of a single chief executive?

If men want to oppose war, it is statism that they must oppose. So long as they hold the tribal notion that the individual is sacrificial fodder for the collective, that some men have the right to rule others by force, and that some (any) alleged good can justify it there can be no peace within a nation and no peace among nations.

Statism in fact and in principle is nothing more than gang rule. A dictatorship is a gang devoted to looting the effort of the productive citizens of its own country. When a statist ruler exhausts his own country's economy, he attacks his neighbors. It is his only means of postponing internal collapse and prolonging his rule. A country that violates the rights of its own citizens, will not respect the rights of its neighbors. Those who do not recognize individual rights, will not recognize the rights of nations: a nation is only a number of individuals.

Statism needs war; a free country does not. Statism survives by looting; a free country survives by production.

Observe that the major wars of history were started by the more controlled economies of the time against the freer ones. For instance, World War I was started by monarchist Germany and Czarist Russia, who dragged in their freer allies. World War II was started by the alliance of Nazi Germany with Soviet Russia and their joint attack on Poland.

Observe that in World War II, both Germany and Russia seized and dismantled entire factories in conquered countries, to ship them home while the freest of the mixed economies, the semi-capitalistic United States, sent billions worth of lend-lease equipment, including entire factories, to its allies.

Germany and Russia needed war; the United States did not and gained nothing. (In fact, the United States lost, economically, even though it won the war: it was left with an enormous national debt, augmented by the grotesquely futile policy of supporting former allies and enemies to this day.) Yet it is capitalism that today's peace-lovers oppose and statism that they advocate in the name of peace.

Wars are the second greatest evil that human societies can perpetrate. (The first is dictatorship, the enslavement of their own citizens, which is the cause of wars.)
