I still think real life is the best way to go! But I know there are lots of reasons why people choose to look online. Best wishes to you either way you go!

Very true about the body language. You will get there tho when you meet your prospective date in person. Just let the first time you meet be exactly what it is. Its not a date its a see if you wanna go on a date.

Sure it's different. But there's other senses than just body language (visual) and intonation (hearing). It's called intuition. Can work quite well, but doesn't mean to say you'll find the right person in a flash. You won't in RL either. You simply walk past most ppl you come across in RL, it's just a happy few that stand out and that we end up smiling or talking to and so on.
If you search online, you're presented with all the people that you'd walk past in RL. So you got to do some serious eliminating.

I do believe that person to person is the way to go, but using a website to meet othersn and getting to know then is a good way to evaluate whether taking that leap of face to face meeting is a good tool.I once met a local girl in a chatroom, and found out we had a lot in common, and we decided to meet, onlyb she didn't show uo, and later told me her best friend had been in a wreck, so she coukdn't make it. Then my mother told me it may be a good thing we didn't meet, and persue a relationship, because we were cousins. It truely can be a small world. I am trying to persue a new relationship with a woman who found my profile interesting, and we've exchanged emails and pics, and hoping to one day meet.Hope springs eternal.

where do you meet people in real life? it seems to me that people are in such a hurry in their every day lives. How many people actually even look at each other in passing?

That is a good point. We don't take time to get to know people unless its someone we see everyday. Like co-workers, classmates, people in a coffee house you frequent, or someone you meet everyday on your daily routine. At least on a website, you can see their basic profile to see if they meet are what you are looking for, before contacting them and trying to persue a relayionship, and it gives u a much broader field of people to choose from.

It use to be super easy to meet people from online but things have changed alot over the years. I met some good ones.

I still prefer RL though
