Now I want to ask you guys something...

I am on another site for dating and I was talking to some guy on there for the last month. It progressed into more then friends and we exchanged numbers. We talked on the phone for about a week and he asked me out. The first time he cancled and the second time he was hesitent about seeing me. So I felt like something was wrong and there was...

He finally told me after a month that he has been using his friends profile to talk to me and that wasn't really him. I asked him when was he going to tell me, because I forced him to tell me what was wrong. He told me that he was going to tell me when we met for our date. I asked him what was he thinking and he replied that he thought that I was so "hot" and just wanted to talk to me. He also said that he didn't think that it would progress to something more then talking.

I asked him what he looked like and he sent me a picture. Well, let me tell you something... he did NOT look anything like his friend at all. I would have freaked out if he approched me and started to talk to me!

The pictures on his friends profile are nothing like the real guy I was talking to. This is what I thought that he looked like: He was white, 5'11", athletic built, brown hair, very cute and had a great smile.

This is what he really looked like:
He was a "big" boy, chubby face, black, 5'11", black hair, and the same age as his friend. Now I have nothing wrong with dating people from a different race or someone that is chubby... but this was a COMPLETE 180 for me! I didn't know what to do, I already started to have the feelings for him, but he lied to me the whole time. He even used his friends name!

Now what would you do in a situation like that?!

Do you guys have any scary stories like that one? You can not trust people on the internet to tell you the truth... just remember that.

Hi cuddlemaria,

Personally I haven't had that happen yet, but my friend did. She was talking to a guy for a while and even got to the point of talking on the phone. When they finally met, this guy was 300 to 400 lbs. Needless to say she was pretty upset and didn't talk to the guy again because he lied to her, and she wasn't attracted to the guy after they met. She doesn't internet date anymore. Can't say that I blame her.
I'm a big girl, but I'd never lie to a guy, because if you ever do meet it's not like you can hide what you look like!!
If your not attracted to this guys pictures, nothing you can do about that. You just start over. I understand why the guy did what he did, but he needs to be truthful. I would think he'd want someone to like him for who he is and what he looks like. Showing your true self weeds out a lot of people. You just have to take the good with the bad. Hang in there I'm positive there are lots of nice truthful men out there

Unfortunately I am sure that same thing happens ALL the time, and sadly with much worse consequences...like scammers/thiefs/etc. trying to get to know u for evil purposes! Just have to keep ur head on straight about it, and go with ur gut feelings...usually, not always, some clues may be given that they are not being upfront and honest!Feelings from the chat or not...do not give this guy another chance! And remember, this is to have fun mostly, anything that comes from it is "Bonus" time! Take care and good luck! P.S. My real pic too!!! :)

I wouldn't blame you for being upset. What he was doing was starting a relationship off with a lie! Unfortunately, there's SO much of that going on online. Also unfortunately, you have to take the chaff with the wheat.

As for my picture... I ask you... could ANYBODY make that stuff up?

I think the friend thing is a farce...I mean really how long does it take to create your own profile????????huh I think it was more like the guy was using a fake pic to begin with and then passed it off as a friends profile so he wouldn't have to tell you it was fake all along!!!!!!!!grumble

Also Ohioman...She probably was e-mailing other guys etc...Like I said why would anyone need to use a friends profile when it only takes 5 min's to create your own!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could understand why he felt he needed to lie to you from the very beginning. I'm sorry...I just can't ever trust someone that lies. A relationship needs to be based on honesty. That's what I think anyway....

Congrats...youve been initiated into "the I got lied to" club. Its happened to me, its happened to many people. Now you'll be a little more wary about who you chat with & who you meet. Just try not to get your hopes up with someone you have never met. Good luck in the future.

I, too, have been duped in the past. Same kind of deal, too. A guy used his roommates photo. And you are right, it freaks you out to think you have been talking to this "image" and all of a sudden it is thrust upon you that you have been talking to a, for you, nonexistant person.

I was NOT amused, and told the guy that, too. And this wasn't a bad looking guy, either. His roommate was quite a bit younger than he, but the real deal was closer to my age anyway.

Don't know what posesses people who tamper with other ppl's feelings............ grumble
