What were you doing when the World Trade Centers were hit? I was getting ready for work, and saw it on TV on the news. At first, I thought I was watching some kind of movie...Very sad day...sad2

I was working at the hospital where i nursed, was helping to set breakfast trays out for patients, when I saw the news, part of me stood so still, I swear, I felt like I was in a zone, I will never ever forget that day, it changed us forever.
my heart and compassion go out to all of those affected with such devasting losses.

I was in first grade. I remember that we watched the news most of the rest of day and I got a big hug from my foster mom when I got home

I was driving to work had to pull over when I first heard about it.... Then when I got to work I was glued to the tv the rest of the day.... It is a day not only etched in time but within my memory... Was the worst disaster I have ever seen.. Watching as the story unfolded the ashes falling and people running for their lives.... And watching as the towers fell.... unbelievable.....

The unfolding of that day and the emotion of disbelief, horror, fear, uncertainty, sorrow, questions of the human condition, etc., etc. can and have filled volumes and volumes.

I just remember (I worked early) and it was just after 7am (CA time). Initially when "The Today Show" broke into the story, the scale was not evident. At first (with the first tower) I thought it just a possible rogue scessna accident. It was only once I arrived at work to ghostly blank faces, when I even "started" to realize the magnitude.

As far as the unfolding and emotion...too much to write!

Making my bed...A friend called and said, "Turn on your TV!"...I did, then I started phoning my family to make plans for all of us to meet at my parents home if need be....I wanted us together if the worst happened...It was frightening, it was hell....

I was out shopping, think I had the kids with me as well, when it was on tv in the shop. I just stood there, couldn't believe it. Quickly went home, and I think I saw the plane hit the 2nd tower. Total utter disbelief. I remember I phoned my husband, who was still at work or on his way home. And kept the news on for hours. Total shock.

I worked at night in 2001 so I normally slept until about noon. It was unusual for me to wake up earlier than that. I woke around 10 a.m. and I felt a rush of anxiety. I knew something major had happened. I quickly dressed in my work clothes, not because this was normal but because I felt this need to get prepared. Then I saw the news on TV that the south tower had just collapsed.

Princeton University has an ongoing study called the Global Consciousness Project which was active on September 11th 2001. The study monitors data from random number generators stationed all around the world. The theory is that if anomalous spikes of more organized numbers is observed it may indicate that humans are connected consciously at a higher level. Below is a graph of the data for the fateful day which recorded what appears to be an anomalous spike in non-randomness. Very intriguing study, in my opinion.

I was out in the middle of nowhere on my own hunting, listening to the radio when the show was interrupted with news of what was taking place.
Around 11 pm it was here in Australia at the time I think.

was working at Newark airport on construction of a new parking garage there. the plane that got brought down in Pennsylvania had just been hijacked from there an hour earlier...was watching all the smoke coming from the first tower and didn't find out it was a plane crash till a few minutes later...they shut down the airport about ten minutes later and ran us out of there...watched the first tower fall from my car window stuck in traffic by liberty state park, from right behind the statue of liberty...couldn't help but cry at that sight....

I don't remember but I do remember the night the Iraq war started. There was a movie on with Jack Lemmon and Burt Lancaster I think but that was interupted by the news coverage. Not being American, that was more frightening and memorable for me than a terrorist attack in America.

I was wondering when/if someone would comment on this...Though not a frightening as the attack, the news brought with it a variety of emotions, none of them good....sad2

@ techno:

Fascinating chart, fascinating concept.

I don't know if they're related, synonymous, off-shoots, or completely unrelated, but if you're not familiar with it already, Google "The Web Bot Project".

From what I recall reading, it was a program designed years (decades?) ago originally intended to monitor to the internet's *consciousness* to get a better read for making stock projections...it followed what people were *discussing* on the internet. According to what I'd read, the government was so intrigued by it and its revelations, it's been using it...and (in retrospect) can be used to predict world-wide catastrophes, in advance. We just need to be able to tie the messages of the online sentiments, in real time (rather than after the fact) TO be able to accurate predict - and forestall - horrific events.

Oh, and OT: I, too, was getting ready for work and turned on the news at about 7AM MDT. I remember hearing it in the background and then going to sit in front of the TV; watching and hearing it literally and figuratively rocked my - and everyone else's - world.

I remember everyone being a little nicer, kinder, and more patient with one another in the days that followed; kind of a melancholy comforter draped over all of us, for a (much too short) period of time, while we all found our bearings, again.

It speaks volumes of its impact and significance that those who were coming-of-age on 9/11/01 are referred to as "The Post-9/11 Generation".

It's on my Bucket List to see this, just once, before I die:

I find it the most eerily beautiful and poignant memorial we've ever created.
