Something I have a hard time with...not really sure where I stand on it.

I know some of these criminals deserve it but I have a hard time imagining taking a human life for any reason.

see i have a tough time with this too...i think sometimes they should have to sit there and suffer like some of their victims had to..but then again some of them are so horrible i think they should die...so i guess it depends on the person really...no clue

I am for the death penalty but only for the most horrific of crimes. But we need to get over the common delusion that it is a deterrent. It isn't particularly when most sentenced to be executed are not. We should be honest about what it is, vengenance. Someone has done something so despicable that we have reached the conclusion that they should be deleted from existence. I also find it more than a bit ironic that there has been so much effort to find a "humane" method of execution, since killing someone is almost by definition the most inhumane thing you can do to another person.

Iraqi children, women, Afghani women, children, Afrikan women, children...

What was their heinous crime to deserve the death penalty?

Dead is dead...splitting hairs, is all about easing your conscience so you can sleep at night.

Kill 'em all. Especially the pedophiles that get out after a couple of years and keep hurting the real innocent victims.devil

so the assumption here is that our judicial system never makes a mistake
and as a result executes innocent people...great.....from the responses here it is obvious
no one spends much time looking into the truth about this in our society...

such little regard for life "kill them all" "eye for an eye"..."express lane"..
"stop wasting my tax money"....we have truly become the worlds worst enemy
afterall...

Jess642,,,,I'm with you completely...I cannot understand the callous support of
a war against the innocent...huh

Davinci that is exactly my problem with the death penalty...once gone there is no going back...and our judicial system is no where near perfect. I don't know...it's very perplexing. frown frown frown

well i am not against the death penalty

but i am in favor of strict regulation of it

if someone is imprisoned for life for a capitol crime

and commit another capitol crime in prison

sorry charlie (no disrespect intended for people named charlie)

if they commit habitual offenses of violent or sexual nature
against multiple victims again to bad

but for single instance or victim i don't think so

but hey what do i know

Capital punishment, also called the death penalty, is the execution of a convicted criminal by the state as punishment for crimes known as capital crimes or capital offences. In most places that practice capital punishment today, the death penalty is reserved as punishment for premeditated murder, espionage, treason, or as part of military justice.

I CAUTIOUSLY SIT ON THE FENCE ON THIS ONE:
IN THEORY I SAY WE SHOULD EXECUTE THOSE THAT KILL OTHERS.

BUT THE LOGICAL PART OF MY BRAIN ASKS, ARE YOU SURE THIS PERSON WAS PROPERLY REPRESENTED? ARE YOU SURE THAT THERE IS NO ERROR (HUMAN OR OTHERWISE)?

if they get killed they are getting off easy..they dont get to spend the rest of their life in a tiny jail cell and getting told when to eat and shower..no they are free to run around and party with satan

I personally oppose the Death Penalty, but I do believe that the government has the right to execute a prisoner. I would vote against any bill giving a state the right to execute prisoners, but I wouldn't protest or complain if a bill allowing execution were to pass.

DaVinci has it right. And if you believe in God, do you really think ANYONE escapes justice?

And for those "eye for an eye" people, look up Matthew 5:38-42. It says:

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

That is Jesus, your lord and savior speaking in the Sermon on the Mount.
