Why don't you want to have a relationship with a single mom?

I personally know men who are having solid relationships with single Mom's. While there are challenges not seen on other relationships, a woman having a child is not a show stopper. JMO

I have never been married, have no children, which is considered unencumbered/no baggage by many single people. I don't want to have a relationship with a single dad but it is difficult to find a man who has no children, and even no grandchildren, who has reached my age. It is even harder for a man to find single women my age who are unencumbered because most women settle down in their 20's and 30's. Therefore, I am willing to settle in that respect but it's a disadvantage for me because the man's attention will be divided between his old family and the new family which we create. I would prefer his undivided attention but it's rare to find an unencumbered attractive successful man my age. That ship has long sailed. Sigh.
It's just a fact of life that people have had pasts where they did have kids. I was a single dad myself before and anytime I met someone and they couldn't accept my son, then that was that, as my kid came first in everything and anything to me. He's grown up now with a kid of his own. I hooked up with my best mates sister, married her last year and became a dad again. Being a parent is very rewarding and has made me a better person all round. I hope you find what you're looking for, but some people set targets so high that, it's hard to achieve and miss the person that they could actually be happy with? Not to say that's you, so don't misconstrue this? I'm talking about some people in general.

You are right up setting overly high expectations. I have no shortage of suitors online and offline. The few I have liked have always led to a relationship which ended up in disappointment or heartbreak for me. And they were all single dads. The others I gave a chance, although I wasn't attracted to them, ended up in disappointment and heartbreak for them because I just wasn't happy in the relationship. It's better to be alone than to settle for someone just to be in a relationship. They will only make you miserable. I'd rather be happy, even short term, and chance heartbreak than settle. This is a conclusion which I have reached for myself. I cannot be with someone I find unattractive even if they offer me the world. Just recently, I had another successful man contact me, offering me the world. He bragged about his 4 homes, yachts, cars. He retired young. I just couldn't get with him. He wasn't my type physically, intellectually or character wise.

To me, a single dad is the person that has the kids all the time. I meet a single dad, just to talk. I then learn he is not a single dad only a sperm dad.
Hey! a single dad has the kids!!
I think I am the only single dad in Canada. I have found most single mom's are not very good at raising kids. So only date single women, and do not let them ever-ever meet my kids. I always have my court papers on me.

Hello 1975, omg! You have seen the same thing I am talking about! Lots of guys say they are dads, but you know that is not the same as 24x7. I am lucky to have the coin so I do not have to deal with Childrens Aid and other government depts.,so I can stand on my own with no government support.
You must be "ONE" of very-very few dads to have their kids in England. I am sure (now) their must be "ONE" in the U.S.A. :)

I didn't like what you said about single moms because they are awesome. A single dad doesn't go through half of what a single mom or any mom goes through.

Nonsense!
I have been a single dad ever since my wife died,
and I have to put up with the same things that single moms have to put up with.

Dads don't go through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, some of the most difficult and selfless things about being a parent are those that men just can't do, and women have to do. To say that women don't mother well is so insulting and wrong. No respect at all, no wonder he is single, maybe he even got custody of those kids just to hurt the mother, who knows with that talk full of hatred of women.

Those things aren't particular to single parenting,
and actual parenting begins after the child is born.

... maybe he even got custody of those kids just to hurt the mother...

That wild claim goes beyond the pale.

... who knows with that talk full of hatred of women.

No man here has expressed hatred for women.

'I have found most single mom's are not very good at raising kids. So only date single women, and do not let them ever-ever meet my kids.'

This guy has major issues against women...he won't let single women meet his kids, he won't date single mothers and says they're mostly all bad moms...he put's himself high up above saying he is so great of a dad and that most others are sperm donors. Seriously he sounds like he gave birth to triplets or something, but somehow I doubt that.

I'm from Scotland and had my oldest kid from the 1990's until he left home a year and a half ago. Being a single dad is a learning curve every day, but saying lots of guys think they're dads? That's pretty arrogant combing from someone who hasn't been the distance yet and a slur to every guy who has the guts and decorum to put his kids first and raise them on his own! You may be a single dad, but you are far from the only one out there, or the only one that held down a job also, with no help from their mother. So just remember that?

Hello all! I raised the 3 children from my first wife from very young on my own. When the three were teens I had 2 more babies to raise from a very nice, publicly well known woman. Being a leader in her field and due to her work load, she last saw them 4 years ago. Interestingly, her and I spoke today as we walked down the hallway.

I'm a single mom and I would like to date in my boundaries. date soneone who has kids like me. who share the aame experiences with me. who will understand where I come from. but I know that anyone Will love me as long as I allow myself to be loved. no matter what I went through a genuine love Will except me for what Im, baggage and all.

This is so sexist...the government doesn't have the right to discriminate anyone based on gender...single dad's get the same government support as single moms..
And nobody can understand your point about your first wife or the other woman, but it sounds like you are putting the other woman down when we don't know the context.

I am the opposite. I have one child (10 months old daughter) and never been married. I was going to say, I could hook you up with my ex, he is not involved with his family, good looking, and he is working on his business and having a good time! Really he is fun to be with, just don't settle down with him and have kids..
