You have your alcoholics, your drug addicts, but did you know that the worst one is porn or internet addiction? It robs your mind of self worth. It robs you of faith with your spouse. It completely absorbs your mind into non-reality. If anyone agrees let me know.

I am a recovering alcoholic... new in recovery and this helps me stay sober. Much safer and healthier for me than hitting the bottle.

Believe me. Internet addiction is no worse than alcoholism.

"It robs your mind of self worth. It robs you of faith with your spouse. It completely absorbs your mind into non-reality"

So does drug addiction and alcoholism...I know I've been there

I had a friend who told me that the porn does absorb your mind as you say, Wolf. It can get where one can not even relate with the real world any more. I would have to agree with the drug and alcohol addiction. Been fighting it for almost 24 years now and still kicking its ass; Thanks to my higher power. From my point of view there are many powers out there. I am thankful that I have an addiction to recovery. For me recovery is a higher power than addiction. It just keeps on getting better one day at a time.

any addiction which robs you of having a "normal" life or causes you and others pain is just as bad as the next. thankfully there is plenty of help and support out there for those who need it :-)

Yes Hill, it does rob you of everything as do alcohol and drugs. I wasn't trying to say that alcohol and drugs weren't the worst, but I've beaten both of those...and it seemed easy. But with the porn thing, it tore my relationship up with my wife, it tore me up, because of guilt, and what it has done to my life, that my self-worth has gone down the drain. But I am slowly picking myself up, taking it one day at a time and staying away from it, because with this site and finding new friends to talk to and share things with, has got me away from it. By the time I get through in this site, I am too exhausted to go anywhere else. I enjoy this site and I want to thank those that have made me friends so far, thanks.

To me any addiction means I am not in control of me.
The only thing I can control is me, so dropped all addictions several yrs ago. I do things because I want to.

Selfcontrol is a like patience, needs to be practiced DAILY.

Wolf, you bring up a good point. 'By the time I get through in this site, I am too exhausted to go anywhere else.' I tried the quit cold turkey method and what I found when I went through treatment that works better is the substitution method. With you substituting this place rather than the porn site you will find it is a good substitution. It can really get the mind out of the gutter so to speak. I have found that addictions can be a crutch as well as a higher power so I found a higher power than addiction to counteract the addiction. To me is like using snake venom for a snake bite. For the pain of grief that acted like an addiction for self-pity I found laughter to be a good anti-addiction therapy. I sure you have probably saw that mentioned if you have ever picked up an old edition of Reader's Digest where one section of the magazine said that laughter is the best medicine. For me recovery is a dynamic force not to be taken lightly but then I am an avid member of self-help groups.

yeah, porn is bad

if war is the breakdown of civilization

porn is the breakdown of humanity, love, etc etc

wow what courage you have to come out and tell everyone youre addicted to porn...they say that by talking about it and realizing its a problem you have already taken a large step..one of the big things to remember about the net is people can act anyway they want..you might never know the real them...but youre family and true friends will always show you through hard times and be there for you..I wish you luck in your recovery and I wish you well with your self esteem so you can stay away from those sites..I agree you do need to try and find a support group..with as many marriages that have ended over net porn I know there has to be some groups for it..Good luck and may God Bless you....

it's just as hard to let people know when you're an alcoholic and you're in recovery. People judge you; but what i realize about myself today is this -- who i was 15 yrs. ago is not who i am today. don't beat yourself up; admitting you have a problem takes COURAGE. take it a day at a time and keep talking about it.

Yeah. No matter what it is if it is causing you problems admitting it is the first step towards recovery. It might be insignificant to someone else but that is ok, too. Somebody else might have dealt with it and found an easy way to get over it. I used to be too proud to admit that I had a problem with something till I got into self-help groups. There are people who really care and try to help. It is like that song by Billy Swan - maybe you have heard it. Nice song anyways.

I Can Help

If you've got a problem, I don't care what it is
If you need a hand, I can assure you this
I can help, I've got two strong arms, I can help
It would sure do me good to do you good,
Let me help

It's a fact that people get lonely, ain't nothing new
But a woman like you baby, should never have the blues
Let me help, I've got two for me, let me help
It would sure do me good to do you good
Let me help

When I go to sleep at night, you're always a part of my dream
Holding me tight and telling me everything I want to hear
Don't forget me baby, all you gotta do is call
You know how I feel about you, if I can do anything at all
Let me help

If your child needs a daddy, I can help
It would sure do me good to do you good,
Let me help

I smoke also and wish I could quit. But staying away from alcohol is a priority for me. Addmitting, surrending to the addiction are the first steps.

their x that they can not move on with their

life and continue on the

journey of their life

They say if you are trying to stop an addition the best thing is to keep totally away from it....I would think the last thing you would do is even be on a computer. I think it would be to tempting to look at porn. They say that lots of people are addicted to porn...it rips apart your family. Your mate looses all faith in you and feels like you are cheating on them, I guess you are cheating on them in a way.
I wish you luck on this....along with everyone else who has had an addiction. I guess I have been bless by not having any kind of addition.
God bless flowerforyou
