Oh, absolutely...no argument there; but you do know that the tried & true American method to invasion of any country is about 'Mineral Revenues' --- whether it be gems or crude oil or both! Quantify/verify and locate...primary plan; to hell with our military humans...that's just 2ndry collateral damage - necessities of war!

And as I stated what Karzai was pushing and what the old records were showing >>>
True...but what was estimated from the British & Russian prior survey's "3 trillion in untapped mineral reserves" and what Karzai claimed "32 trillion"...we sorely needed more factual data!

had to be verified for our American interest; under the guise of---well, we'll be able to provide those natives with a resource that will provide them a job and a sustainable income as well {get them off of the opium trade}--- while we make sure we get our cut in trade agreements!

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the British geological survey were doing resource estimation work in the country. Prior to that work, Afghanistan's exploration activity had been conducted by geologists from the Soviet Union who left good-quality geologic records that indicate significant mineral potential. Resource development would require improvements in the infrastructure and security in Afghanistan

Catholic Bishops Support Iran Deal, Oppose Congressional Republicans

Why are some Catholic teachings worth more than others?

Whos supporting the P5+1 deal with Iran? Many Democrats, liberal celebrities, and… the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The result could be a conundrum for Republican presidential candidates seeking to woo Catholic voters—but more likely will be an example of how some Catholic positions are more equal than others.

The USCCB, the official association of U.S. bishops, is known for taking a wide range of socially conservative positions—entirely against abortion and contraception, the USCCB led the attack on Obamacare’s so-called “Contraceptive Mandate,” and was ahead of the curve in calling for “religious freedom” laws such as Indiana’s.

At the same time, it has long taken many economically and militarily progressive ones. The USCCB strongly supported the DREAM act, has long favored increased government aid to the poor, and opposed nuclear weapons.

It might appear as though the GOP needs to spend some time within their GROUP hashing out a GAME PLAN before they upset anymore of their voting base! EGAD...this doesn't bode well!

But where the British & the Russian's left off on that last USGS survey's the United States needed to update and verify: we had reports of 3 trillion assets and Karzi was claiming 32 trillion assets for his "mineral reserves"...rather a stretch between those numbers --- RIGHT?

I'll apologize for this image being waaaay off topic but it goes along with our possible recoupment for laying claim to substantial mineral rights in Afghanistan for our outlay for that war and all those missing millions of dollars in CASH and rebuilding and fortresses that we are leaving behind!

RockGnome
Iran should have been turned into an
obsidian wasteland, decades ago.

I can't tell you how many times I dreamt that for Afghanistan and now they've recently found mineral deposits in those wasteland hills too; wouldn't that just have solved a lot of time/effort/mining cost to just have bombed them all 'FLAT' ---
I mean relocation of all those warring tribal factions and letting them dig for minerals would provide a livable income instead of the opium harvest and terror from those jihadist/Taliban/ISIS that use those mountains to hid out in!

Just a reoccurring dream - lost a couple of nephews over there; don't want anymore Americans to suffer!

There is that old ancient proverb about -
'fighting my warring tribal faction in those arid countries but woe be it for any foreign nation to interfere and declare war against them - that would be like declaring WAR on my cousin'...simply put - it's like a family feud that we just don't understand and dare not chose a side in!
But those 'dirty little arms deals during Ronnie Reagan Years' were just the start of our twisting the knife when it suited our needs!

Iran - Contra/Secret Arms Deals >

President Ronald Reagan initiated a strategic opening to Iraq, signing National Security Study Directive (NSSD) 4-82 and selecting Donald Rumsfeld as his emissary to Hussein, whom he visited in December 1983 and March 1984.[13] According to U.S. ambassador Peter W. Galbraith, far from winning the conflict, "the Reagan administration was afraid Iraq might actually lose."[14]

In 1982, Iraq was removed from a list of State Sponsors of Terrorism to ease the transfer of dual-use technology to that country. According to investigative journalist Alan Friedman, Secretary of State Alexander Haig was "upset at the fact that the decision had been made at the White House, even though the State Department was responsible for the list."[3] "I was not consulted," Haig is said to have complained

And some of our American politicians are suffering from selective memory; while I'm quite certain that few in Iran are --- we've stuck it to many nations when the dirty deed suited our purpose and the history books may not be printed up in our classrooms that way, but rest assured that those countries impacted by our evil deeds don't forget!

Other states with nuclear weapons (India, Pakistan, North Korea)

Well, we've already proven that we can - we have - we will use nuclear weapons and there hasn't been any other nations todate {YET} that has done that! And as 'fear mongering' as we seem to be about Iran we still have had Israel come clean with what they've got stashed away --- so frankly for me; I'm quite done with supporting their agenda and sending them $$$. and who is getting killed in South Africa? a few white hating warring tribesman? when was the last time South Africa was being invaded by neighboring countries armed with ak's and rpg's?
when was the last time a country/s wanted to "wipe South Africa off the map"? Israel has only been a country for about 70 years, and been invaded at least three times and seen thousands of citizens lost to non war raids by the religion of peace and love...

I know you know and yet it bears repeating; that the Wikipedia has genocide listed in alpha order and this is the first of many {and yes - America has our own black marks documented in there was well}...

The Old Testament documents the destruction of the Midianites, taking place during the life of Moses in the 2nd millenium BC. The Book of Numbers chapter 31 recounts that an army of Isrealites kill every Midianite man but capture the women and children as plunder. These are later killed at the command of Moses, with the exception of girls who have not slept with a man. The total number killed is not recorded but the number of surviving girls is recorded as thirty two thousand.
***********
Africa -
Zulu Kingdom

Between 1810 and 1828, the Zulu kingdom under Shaka Zulu laid waste to large parts of present-day South Africa and Zimbabwe. Zulu armies often aimed not only at defeating enemies but at their total destruction. Those exterminated included prisoners of war, women, children and even dogs.[14] (Controversial) estimates for the death toll range from 1 million to 2 million
**********
The Herero and Namaqua Genocide in German South-West Africa (present-day Namibia) occurred between 1904 and 1907.[27] Eighty percent of the Herero population and 50 percent of the Nama population were killed in a brutal scorched earth campaign led by German General Lothar von Trotha. Between 24,000 and 100,000 Herero perished along with 10,000 Nama.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocides_in_history

And as appalling as those figures are and these figures represent another set of years that we just ignored what was going on in South Africa; and I know it's not because you are a heartless human Joe...but if there had been a 'Mineral Right/A Crude Oil' value here in South Africa that we {USA} could have attached our trade interest too --- you don't think we would have made these genocides a matter of great interest and sent our military presence there in full force to stop this?

According to the HRC statistics, 21,000 people died in political violence in South Africa during apartheid - of whom 14,000 people died during the six-year transition process from 1990 to 1994. The book lists the number of incidents, dates, and those involved.

This includes SA Defence Force actions, for instance the 600 deaths at Kassinga in Angola during the war in 1978.

Of those deaths, the vast majority, 92%, have been primarily due to Africans killing Africans -- such as the inter-tribal battles for territory: this book's detailed analyses of the period June 1990 to July 1993 indicates a total of 8580 (92%) of the 9,325 violent deaths during the period June 1990 to July 1993 were caused by Africans killing Africans, or as the news media often calls it, "Black on Black" violence - hostel killings, Inkatha Freedom Party versus ANC killlings, and taxi and turf war violence.
http://iluvsa.blogspot.com/2011/06/how-many-blacks-died-under-apartheid.html

And then due to that gross amount of genocide the tribal warlords will notice that their breeding stock of women {sadly that is how women are viewed by those warlords} has greatly demised and that their number of male gendered fighters are either getting to old to fight or ill or to few and then the stealing/capture of young girls begin! Sex Slaves - invading schools...to capture brides for their warriors/military!

The rate of sexual violence in South Africa is among the highest in the world. Sexual violence is the use of force or manipulation to get someone to engage in unwanted sexual activity without his or her consent.[1] An estimated of 500,000 rape cases take place in the country, every year.[2]

Report and conviction rates[edit]

It is estimated that over 40% of South African women will be raped in their lifetime and that only 1 in 9 rapes are reported.[12] It is also estimated that 14% of perpetrators of rape are convicted in South Africa.[13] In 1997, violence against women was added as one of the priority crimes under the National Crime Prevention Strategy; nevertheless, the rates of reported rape, sexual abuse of children and domestic violence continue to rise.[14]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_violence_in_South_Africa

And still - we send financial aid/military weapons to Israel who has financial means and nuclear weapons {unaccounted for still to this day} and should we be???

That to me is the primary question - where is the greater need and what do we OWE ISRAEL?

Oh most certainly this is your topic/thread and I'll apologize if I've offended you but I thought we were having a conversation...sometimes they go astray with our thoughts!

No, I didn't include the years of the Jewish Genocide in those quotations - figured that we all had them pretty well embedded in our memories --- but if you have any recent data for 'Jewish Genocide'; I'd be interested as I haven't read about those figures - stats. That's why my interest and current reading has been about South Africa...but it's not of interest to you so that to is OK!

But my point and about nuclear weapons in Israel hands has yet to garner any comment from you and I've written it over 3-4 times now; you don't care that we have no valid count from Israel for how many/what type & kind of nuclear weapons they have in stock? That causes you no worries at all?

For my 2 cents worth. I don't care how many nukes Israel has because they are not threatening or attacking other nations. It's the ones with the ruling Mullahs that shout "death to America or Israel" that concern me. IMHO:smile:
