Chlamydia outbreaks hits nearly 10 percent of small Texas school in district with no sex-ed policy David Edwards 04 May 2015 at 09:38 ET A small Texas high school has notified parents that it was dealing with a chlamydia outbreak. Officials from the Crane Independent School District confirmed to KWES that the state health department was sending a letter to Crane High School parents informing that at least 20 cases had been reported. The school has an enrollment of about 300 students. While chlamydia can be cured, it can cause permanent damage to the reproductive system if left untreated. According to the Crane Independent School District Student Handbook for 2014-2015, the district “does not offer a curriculum in human sexuality.” In 2012, the district’s School Health Advisory Committee had recommended Scott & White’s “Worth the Wait” Abstinence Plus curriculum if a sexual education policy was adopted. In fact, Texas state law requires any sex-ed course to devote more attention to abstinence than any other behavior. And students must be taught that abstinence until marriage is the best way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. According to KOSA, Crane High School does offer three days of sexual education during the fall semester. The district’s Schools Health Advisory Committee planned to meet on Monday to discuss how to deal with the chlamydia outbreak. Dallas County Health and Human Services records show that sexually transmitted diseases have spiked in recent years. Syphilis diagnoses increased 31 percent between 2012 and 2013. it should be taught in schools and they should show child birth videos to both male and female students too. people might think its harsh to do that but its what happens after sex if you don't use something, its real and gets the message across. also showing what these diseases can do if protection is not used. hopefully these teens will if not wait then use something, and wait till there older to actually have babies. they only teach at the min in uk schools the ins and outs of sex really (no pun intended) I got my real info from dirty mags I kept under my bed lol. these days too teens boys are growing up thinking the girls there going out with will do the things that they see on the internet they think that that's what happens really. it was actually in the papers here.

if they have this much of an outbreak in one school then obviously they will need to send home a parent newsletter about it.
when I went to school we had sex ed as part of health class in 6th grade but it was mainly about puberty and then again in 9th grade and we did discuss all these issues and watched a birth film at end of the semester |

We had it is the 6th grade as part of " home economics" class. I learned to sew, cook and for the sex Ed part it was the " birds & the bees stuff and as a grand finale we watched a film on 2 dogs humping.

SERIOUSLY --- OMG We had the 'Disney' film edition in the 6th grade; all butterflies and bambi but nothing about the actual working parts of the female reproductive system or the males either! We were gender separated and shown this during PE class; lots of sideways glances from those boys when they joined us out on the kick ball court after it was their turn - snickers and giggles and offers of 'do you need a nickel for the machine in your restroom now' - whenever anyone needed a restroom break! We never had this in biology or home ec in high school either; but we'd over hear those upper class girls talking in the shower/restroom after PE class; WOW, got an ear full there! We'd be rushing into the library to grab a dictionary to look up words and their meaning!  When I was a Para for those Autistic children 2008 - 2012 this topic was covered in the 4th grade {separated genders once again} and it was the very last week of the school year! But once again it only covered the basics about a girls menstrual cycle and nothing about the reproductive system of the male genitals or STD's! KS - where the Rev. Fred Phelps resides -

Yes.. they would have the classroom..
go out to the corral... and they would bring out a cow.. and then a bull... .. One of the teachers would do a play by play commentary... ... unfortunately. it had an adverse effect.. the girls thought thats how big a guy should be... and the guys just stood there.. gobsmacked.... with performance anxiety..lol |

There were 8 of us kids in my family. I remember thinking... holy S**t!!... this is what my mother and father are doing... a lot!!! It was a eye opening experience Lol |

I went to schools in major metropolitan cities. Sex education was OFFERED & the parents were sent a letter that had to be sighed. And listed choices... what the PARENTS permitted to be taught & WHICH topics were co- ed.
This was from grade 7-10th. After that no permission was needed. Now... public schools, IMO from what I have experienced & seen, read. & other parents.... is a nightmare & a pedophiles dream. There are schools in the USA that are teaching sex education as young as kindergarten.... not only homosexuality but transgenders. My God, what have we become that, PARENTS no longer care, protect or oversee their children? No permission from the patents. Not even a notification that it will or has been taught. Simply appalling.  |

We had quite a bit of sex education in the third year so we would have been 13 or 14. We were shown certain gadgets like the coil and condons etc. We also watched a film about giving birth, six people fainted including one lad at the beginning when the couple were holding hands. I was sat at the front so every know and again you would hear a thud then the sound of someone being dragged out into the corridor
 Ps I do remember thinking, OMG my mum and dad must have done that at least five times, I couldn't look at them for ages! |

I guess living on a farm {rural America} we grew up knowing/seeing/being more aware of 'things' that mother nature provided us then most city kids did but to have boys that age 'FAINT' from watching a film - OMG - was it 'X' rated? WOW!

I don't know anywhere in America that any of those gender issues are being 'TAUGHT' but I know that there are books about: 'my house has 2 daddy's/or my house has 2 mommy's' are on the books shelves in the some school libraries! But because of the high pregnancy rate in our Southern States and the lack of Sex Ed classes being allowed to be taught in those same states there has to be a coalition drawn and now with the CDC putting out reports about increase in STD's --- Well, it's sadly a horrid shock that these high school young people will be attending college already exposed to a STD! |

Sad that we even thought we needed one...for 9 yr olds & up. Apparently there is an age limit. So if young women are too old for it.. it is too late. And it is still unknown what the disease does to men, now & in the future. But I believe in " age appropriate" teaching & " parental permission". Parents are parents, if they don't want their child or teen taught sex education, disease & birth control etc.. it is there right. * it should not matter why* IMO |

WOW! NO it wasn't x-rated it was just an educational film about the birds and the bees. It did show a woman giving birth in all it s technicolour glory though, and i do remember it was lunch time straight after. As for the lad who fainted at the beginning I do remember him having a porno mag confiscated a year or so later in class so perhaps the film helped him mature pretty fast, lol
