Sorry about your break up. You will hear a lot of remedies ranging from liquor to a hot new man, but time is the only thing that usually works. It also help if you can find an outlet for your thoughts and feelings. Don't keep them inside, they will only eat away at your soul.

Hello, I'm new to posting. Just broke up with a guy. Having a hard time what's the best way to get over a break-up? Any suggestions?

1- Break -all contact (completely)
2- Remove - all trace of him
3- Change - the way you think & speak about about him.( & probably your phone number)
Don't ask or try to figure out why or look for closure.
Don't say his name.
Don't refer to him as " My ex ". He is now " That guy "
Don't say " Break up", say " Near Miss" & " Narrow Escape "
Keep telling yourself " an ex is an ex for a reason " & " Better now than later " & " I deserve better "
4- Move - on to other things when you are ready. Not when other people tell to you.

Hope this helps. Good Luck & Be good to YOU. You are the most important person you know. Do be your own friend. If you don't love you, no one else will. flowers

What's the best way to get over a break-up?

There is no "best" way.

There's just the way you end up doing it.

Any suggestions?

What do you want to do?
Do that. See what happens.

Thank you too.
A breakup is gut wrenching and only time will make you feel normal again.

Time heals. Until that person out your system just do things for yourself. You will cry, hate that person all those things that comes in grief of a relationship but the one thing that will happen that you will move forward and won't even think about that person.

I'm tempted to get cute by joking about the exact phrasing of the question (Get over a breakup? Get back together. Get over THE GUY, is what you want), but I know too well how much it hurts.

One additional thing that has helped me, has been to separate out in my mind, what it was that I thought I lost when that person left, from what I felt I lost simply because I didn't have someone to officially be with now. The point is, to realize that you can and will get back, all the things on the list about "being with someone" as soon as you find another someone. You only permanently lose the few items on the shorter list of stuff directly having to do with that person.

And watch out for our human tendency to attribute things like "happiness" to the person with whom we were once happy, when in reality it was US who were happy, even then.

One more thing: unless the person actually did do something horrible to cause the breakup, I recommend against trying to vilify them in your mind. I've never seen that help anyone, and in fact it usually backfires, because in order to say the person was THAT BAD, you also have to admit that YOU CHOSE SOMEONE THAT BAD to give your love to.

Lots of good advice. I think just telling yourself that you may not know the reason now, but something better is coming, so just be your best self until it arrives and then you can enjoy the next leg of the journey of your life. Good Luck. Hope the fellowship here helps you. Welcome to Mingleland. .

Avoid direct contact with him, remove the reminders like pics and gifts (don't destroy them, store them)...Start doing all the things you put off when you were seeing him...Every time you remember something good about your relationship, match it with something bad...Use your support system of friends and family, they won't mind...Be patient...Don't rebound into another relationship, that will only add insult to injury...Good luck Stella!flowerforyou

I can so relate. I broke up with a relationship of 20 years and moved out of the country. Only cuz I have very cool parents who took me in. Nine months later i am still alone and have yet to find someone. It doesn't help that i am new to Colombia. But one of the things I did was join this website to meet some cool interesting people. I have met some nice ones but unfortunately mostly scammers. So be careful as I am being. It is easy to fall into traps when you are vulnerable. Good luck to all of us going through the same thing.
