Sorry, I'm depressed. One time in my whole life I had only one teacher that didn't like me. It was the only D I ever got. She was fired after one semester and I resumed my normal A's - ok, occasional B's.

IT'S AN ON-LINE CLASS - all she know's is my writing. Oh, by the way it's a writing class. Three essay's one B (everyone got a B, it was the first essay), a C and a C+ on my greatest research paper of all time. -- Of course it was only a draft--- but a C+. She made insertions - 17 of them, telling me I didn't "quote" properly, or that I needed a citation.

THEY WERE MY WORDS - does the woman think I don't have a friggen original thought in my head????????? If you do research and find 20 comments by 20 different people refereing to the same point - can you not make your own da - mn point?

I had 15 citations, 7 were intext quotes - she said I need more..... The other papers - the longest one has 7 altogether.

Maybe I souldn't have written my problem/solution paper on the gay marriage debate??????

Ok-thanks for this momentary burst of frustration. My final draft is due Monday by 11:55 PM. One fruitful comment, the instructor made, was to review the APA style - that's when I realized I wrote the whole dang paper, including citations in MLA style - s i g h hhhh - I have a lot work to do.

A FLIPPIN C - IN A WRITING COURSE. AUGHRRRRRR grumble  explode

Though I sympathise with you Redy, I'm not sure what this has to do with religion? You must really be rattled.

Take it to the Student counsellor or Dean. They have people you may appeal to.

Also, what was the paper on? I got slammed hard on several papers I wrote because they didn't go along with my Prof's line of thought.

Redy-

I gave a speech on "gays in the military" as an undergrad and my speech prof. gave me a "C" on it. She said that:

"there is no plausible argument or allowing gays in the military. You chose an unwinnable argument- that's why I gave you a C".

I had to go to the Dean of her College to get my grade changed. Sadly, it could in fact be the subject matter.

However, as far as the citation style, every professor I've ever had has been really strict about that although most of mine preferred MLA.

Good luck with revisions.... flowerforyou

Red, this is my vent poem for editorial critics.

My Bloody Editor

At first I got mad.
Red lines all over my paper.
My poem was so soaked with blood.
So many comments that were rough.

I read what you said, again.
I realized that you read my poem.
You liked my poem.
I smiled.

My content was OK.
My poem was rough.
Your input was right.
I rewrote my poem.

I rewrote it for you.
More blood you added.
I love the blood.
My poem bleeds for you.

I have a bloody smile.
You bloody well liked it.
I am in bloody hell.
I am in bloody heaven.

I am a bloody fool.
It doesn't matter
if you read it, again.
It matters that you commented.

Bleed for me
and I will bleed for you.
Revenge is so sweet.
I can't stop laughing.

did she tell you APA to start with? not something to just "assume" that your students know.

most writing courses USE MLA...so i'm kind of shocked. APA is used more often in psych or science courses.

i'd be a bit pissy that she didn't say that directly...

" Take it to the Student counsellor or Dean. They have people you may appeal to."

I had to do this once. While a freshman in high school, I had the bad luck to draw a substitute English teacher who just happened to be a much older cousin. Our regular English teacher was on extended leave because of an illness, and it was his first steady teaching assignment after having gotten his Art degree.

He have me an F on my very first book report I wrote for him. He said there was no doubt in his mind that it was plagiarized. He said it was college level work, and that a high school freshman was no-how-no-way capable of this caliber of writing. I think he also had to prove that he wasn't being partial. I protested, and offered to redo the report on any book he chose _and_ to write the report in front of witnesses. I did so, and after duplicating the quality of the first report, he changed my grade to an A+.

Sometimes, you just have to complain.

"Puck'em if they can't take a foke". Ahemm, I mean "shucks", can't that teach see your brilliance? Don't let it get you all flusterd.
You indeed did choose the right place where your friends will feel your presence.
I have faith in you, you have faith in you, we all (well, most) of us have faith in you. So, go get'um sister!

Don't feel too bad. I had a poli-sci prof who lectured us on one thing, had us read textbooks and other books for another bunch of stuff and gave exams on a third set. The three never overlapped, and his grading method was always ambiguous. Passing that class depended an unknown standard.

'redy',

You are the judge!!!

If your work is an 'A+' in your sincerest of view, APPEAL IT 'till there is no recourse left.

Argue it, and defend it with all your heart and brilliance, as if you were defending your own children.

Do not allow mediocrity and complaisancy to make an ill judgment on you, or your work.

Appealing with conviction, and to the end, for what it is you beleve in, is as much part of the learning process as writing a parper.

And THAT 'eljay' , is the part that has to do with 'faith', 'spirit', and makes it such that the piece fully belongs in the 'religion chat' forum.

Go for it 'redykeulous'!!! Standing for soul and spirit never fails!!!

(in the end, regardless of the result, a 'C' mark, with a hell of fight, is worth so much more than an easy 'A+' !!!)

:)

Wow - I really do cherish all of you so much. Thanks for all the stories, at least now I don't feel so singled out. Thanks for the support too.

I just now downloaded my final draft. I've got a page and a half of references, or bibliography or citations or whatever the heck you want to call it.

I also did two peer reviews - unfortunately we don't get to see their grades, but I wouldn't pass them, not even with a C. I guess I'll wait for the grade on the final.

I'm not above causing a fluster at the college, but I do like to get enough rope before I build a scaffold.

Thanks for the poem too, Hill - nice use of color.

Red, While taking creative writing the teacher would have us all do a diary every day. Periodically she would have us turn them in. She sure critiqued mine a lot. Run on sentences; Grammatical errors; ad infinitum.laugh On one major work that was atleast five pages long she found one sentence she liked. Egads. There was one sentence she liked. laugh It was the one not rewritten by her. On one work I did six rewrites and turned them all in at once. She liked the fifth one.laugh
