Cecil was a 13 year old lion killed by an American trophy hunter with the help of some locals in Zimbabwe. The key American suspect, Walter James Palmer, reportedly has a history of illegal hunting activity. Please sign my petition asking for full accountability and punishment for all those involved in Cecil’s death.

I've been to Africa to volunteer with these amazing, social and family oriented animals and it worries me that they might disappear in my lifetime. We've lost more than 80-90% of the world's lion population in recent decades due to massive habitat loss, disease, trophy hunters and the exotic animal trade. Most lions killed as trophies end up in the United States.

We need to work together to take a few steps:

1) We need the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to release their final rule on the listing of the African lion under the Endangered Species Act to help prevent imports of trophy animals killed in outrageous circumstances.

2) We also need USFWS to look into violations of the Lacey Act. If there have been, Mr. Palmer and any accomplices must be held fully accountable.

3) Officials in Zimbabwe already arrested two Zimbabweans. Public pressure must continue so they are held accountable as well as any business they were connected to -- these bloody and violent trophy hunting businesses cannot get away with this cruelty.

Trophy hunting is shameful but has big money behind it. Reports say Cecil was lured off Hwange National Park, baited with an animal carcass, shot with a bow and arrow, and then tracked for nearly two days before finally being killed with a gun. The killers also tried to destroy the GPS tag on Cecil which was another sign they were doing something especially immoral.

Please sign my petition to support justice for Cecil.

I’ll be certain to update you on this gruesome case specifically and additional actions you can take to help lions and other animals from being poached. Thank you.

Never in a million years.
I don't respond well to emotional manipulation.

Cecil was a 13 year old lion

I've eaten hamburger, pepperoni, ham, chicken, taken medicine developed using animal testing, and worn leather since "Cecil" died.
I never gave it a second thought that these animals were kept in cages, and killed horrendously, for my appetite.

Are lions like the white guys of the animal kingdom?
Cow, chicken, rodent, and pig lives matter!

At best this whole thing is just evidence why people shouldn't name animals.

Trophy hunting is shameful

Personally, I think the emotional manipulation and social shaming of people for an agenda is a million times worse than killing one more animal among the millions killed daily.

One thing I find hilarious is this Cecil business has been in the news far more than the annual human trafficking report that came out Monday.
"Justice for Cecil the animal!....oh, human slavery going on, meh."

That's right, justice for the death of an "animal" that happens to be the greatest predator to walk the earth, cut down prematurely, not for the meat, not as self defence, but for a goddam picture!

AND justice for the 20+ cubs that will be killed by other males as a result.

EDIT*

BTW, that's a goddam elephant he's sitting on

Based on the trophy pics, our dentist has likely spent a quarter million dollars + on the hunts for the animals pictured. Since these 'canned' hunts (animals are confined in a small area and are a guaranteed kill)run around $20-50,000 each plus airfare, hotels, meals, and any bribes to various officials to get the game out of or into a country, he's done a crap load of root canals and braces in his lifetime.

Of note is there have been about 12 MILLION stories, comments, postings etc about Cecil, and only 1.8 MILLION about Samuel DuBose, killed in Cincinnati about 10 days ago by a white police officer who now faces a murder charge.

Seems to me, that based on the level of press coverage, and how the Hollywood elite have rallied around the death of Cecil, the logo on the t-shirt should be 'Lion Lives Matter!'......

THIS JUST IN....Claiming the name shows a lack of sensitivity to the tragic loss of Cecil, PETA has announced that it will 'shame' the NFL's Detroit Lions franchise into changing its name to the Detroit Cecils.

It plans to ask members to protest all Lions games, refrain from attending or watching Lions games, or owning items bearing the Lions logo.

When asked to comment, team spokesman Lamont Snerd said...."Say whaaat? They can kiss my black a$$! Send a lion up in this here motherf*cker and see how long he last. We'll make coats, clothes, and BBQ outta that thing!" Mr. Snerd then proceeded to wolf down a burger, and bust a cap in the direction of a bothersome butterfly....back to you Wolf!

Justice for Cecil,
would be, if, the hunter and guides
had their genitals scraped off with a
wooden spoon.

Seriously...
Only a poon, would participate in a
canned hunt.

Well what can I say? Americans care more about a lion in Africa than they do about the lyin' African in the White House.

We have war, pestilence, fire, flood, hunger, murder, hate, and all manner of inhumane things we do to EACH OTHER that you could get mad about and want to change.

THIS is what sets people off though? A lion, killed in a country where they are killed with some regularity it seems, and with a ruler that likes baby elephant for snacks?

Yeah. I used to wonder why I drank. It's kinda making more sense now.

Okay, I was going to let these ignorant comments slide but now I have to chime in. Listen very carefully.

HUMANS HAVE FREE WILL. THEY HAVE THE RESOURCES AND MEANS AT THEIR DISPOSAL TO GET HELP. HUMANS CREATE ALL THE MISERY WHICH EXISTS ON THE PLANET. THEY HAVE LAID THIS PLANET TO WASTE.

ANIMALS HAVE NO VOICE. COMPASSIONATE HUMANS ARE THEIR VOICE. WE ARE THEIR VOICE. WE HAVE DEVASTATED, ENSLAVED AND DESTROYED THEM LONG ENOUGH. MANY ANIMALS HAVE BECOME ENDANGERED SPECIES OR WORSE, EXTINCT, BECAUSE OF HUMANS HUNTING THEM OUT OF EXISTENCE. SO EXCUSE ME IF MY CONCERN LIES PRIMARILY WITH THE ANIMALS. HUMANS CAN TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES.

You know I love animals too,
But similar to what SassyEuro says....

Humans are suffering the world ...
What about them?
Why doesn't the world give a flying monkeys *** about them?
Hmmmmmmmm our world is so so messed up!

I think killing this lion was killing for the sake of killing. And NOT a true sport or for food. And disgusting.

I just wish, people would stand up, rally etc., for themselves & for each other... the way they are willing to for a non human.

* I do like Concan's latest pic. And wish I could fire that pride of lions *

Humans can take care of themselves. They have free will and a voice and resources. Animals do not have a voice. They are at our mercy. We are their voice. That is why these cases are so heartbreaking.
