Right in the comments also what will cause it to end ? My guess asteroid impact around 2065.

five years after yellowstone and one other super volcano erupts.

(yellow stone is past due)

When the Sun .. that we orbit around.... grows large enough to incinerate us.. don't really have a timeline for you... but it is getting hotter every year... have you not noticed..

Thanx PHD and Mo, I tried to delete my post when I realized I misread the question.

yellowstone is something we could see in our lifetime, but it could also be 10,000 years from now as well

Kracatoa could be erupting again soon as well, they think

The world will end when we reach the sign.

I prefer to do a u-turn before then.

Now if were talking about the extinction of mankind... well..hmmm.. there's so many of us spread out across this planet.. I'm sure no matter what happens ....be it a meteor asteroid strike.. some of us would carry on... now unless we found.. some other life form on this planet.. which is highly possible.. at a cellular level.. and we played God nourished it developed it into fruition.. basically creating a subspecies of a human being.... which would probably be more developed.. possess a higher intelligence than us... then this new subspecies would simply begin to replace us as the dominant species on the planet... therefore we would create our own extinction event.. evolution would carry on as normal..
. Replacing one dominant species with another.. as it has done since the beginning..of time..

Artificial intelligence, sort of ties in with ^^^^

Our own downfall at least, in some way

as long as it can divide itself yes.. very possible to find.. are replacements right here on earth no need for men from outer space..lol... everything that is needed to make the next version of us is right here.. a better newer improved us..so to speak.. we are clearly stuck in a rut obsessed with.. monetary means.. no matter the cost ...our evolution has gone stagnant.. our forefathers forefathers forefathers have sent us down this path... and like all paths they eventually come to an end... now a path can split fork out go in different directions... but throughout time ,the direction! the paths that have being so poorly chosen . From those that came before us at pivotal moments throughout history... well let's just say... our future is beholden to our past...yup

Our own downfall at least, in some way

this is from listverse.com, top ten bizarre apocalypses, number 1...

This is my favorite scenario, because its utterly terrifying. As technology progresses it gets smaller and smaller. Pretty soon we are going to enter the realms of Nano technology. In a simple way we are already there. IBM for instance placed single atoms to spell out the IBM logo. For this scenario we have to go a little bit into the future, not long, say 10 years. Nanobots are what I’m talking about. They will be microscopic robots designed to do all sorts of tasks, mostly in the medical field where they can seek out and eradicate bacterial infections, repair tissue damage, mend blood vessels. Lots of things that would be very helpful to everyone. They will be able to rearrange single atoms and for instance, make water out of sand. They will be able to take carbon atoms and turn them in diamonds. They will pick up raw materials and rearrange them into what they need. Well, obviously they will be extremely difficult to make, being microscopic and everything. And herein lies the problem. Scientists realize the only way to make them would be to use the Nanobots themselves. To make them self replicating. So each one is a microscopic Nanobot factory.

Here’s the scary bit. What would happen if just one of them were accidentally thrown away? Well it would pretty much go around changing atoms into robots. Then those robots would make more, and more, and more, at an exponential rate until the horror has unfolded. Scientists believe within 72 hours every single atom on earth will be turned into a Nanobot. All buildings, cars, plants, rocks, the water, animals and yes, even us humans… are now Nanobots. There it is, an endless sea of grey goo. And if ever some extra terrestrial were to land on the planet, then they too would be turned into Nanobots. What’s even more scary is that scientist are really working on creating Nanobots and are very close to achieving it.

Well another scary scenario or something to bounce around..lol.. if we didn't go down the road of carbon fuels.. instead of coal and oil we developed natural resources.. greener resources... perhaps instead of dominating other cultures we embrace them the North American Indian for example the African American cultures for example... the landscape of the planet would look a lot different than it does right now.
.. any scenario that revolves around using up your resources unless they are renewable.. eventually ends up in a dead end... we recycle ...Well !!the planet that is... recycles the same air and water for us... the same water and air that has being here from the beginning... it has done a really good job of it... at least until the Industrial Revolution.... having your population live longer.. on this planet! at least the way it is now is not a good idea.. more people less resources... equals bad news... a world where machines do everything... leaves your human population with very little to do.. unless you get away from a monetary civilization... if you do this then mankind and technology can coexist..

A self-aware Mecca.. a machine.. that is aware of itself and its impact.. a machine that can trick a human into believing it is not a machine at all..
Will soon crunch the numbers itself..
Do some very basic calculations.. on the resources it needs to build its own tribe... so to speak.. would soon come to the conclusion.. that it needs and requires X amount of resources. would soon. then come to the realization that' human beings are vying for the same resources.... well machines aren't quite as political as we are...lol.. algorithms 0101.. does not.. and would not allow.. us to use up its resources... but then again this self aware Android would run another set of numbers.. the endgame scenarios.. realizing once it has used up all the resources it needs... then what happens?.. at this point the Android..
Would simply go over kiss its lover the coke vending machine... and then go stand in the corner and deactivate itself...lol... you see even a cold machine.. has more foresight than a human being...lol

"Life as we know it" has a number of scenarios of ending.

Asteroid big enough to change everything but not big enough to kill everything.

Asteroid big enough to kill pretty much everything.

World economic collapse.

Super volcano in Yellowstone.

Nuclear war started by Iran.

Nuclear was started by terrorists with bombs purchased from Pakistan.

Germ Warfare (the easiest of all methods)

Most likely is terminal Political Correctness.
