Photos are first impressions, you have seconds to sell yourself your impressions last for a while, until otherwise its better to make the best of it, for proper introduction/impression.
so photos are great.

The only thing I want to add, is that it's a mistake to think you KNOW anything about someone, just because they don't have a pic up. Or a really recent one, for that matter.

As Sitka says, for practical reasons, it's logical to make sure you DO know who (or what) you are dealing with before you take any risks.

But there is no need at all to make any declarations about someone, based on this.

I point this out, because possible THE most common behavior I see people exhibiting in these kinds of forums, is to think they have to make pronouncements and deeply personal decisions about each and every person they deal with.

I recommend an approach sort of loosely based on an old wine commercial I saw. Their tag line was "we will sell no wine, before it's time."

My application here is, don't make any hard decisions about another person, until you HAVE to, in order to proceed. This helps cut down on your fears or prejudices turning you into an inadvertent hermit.

I agree

I can see both sides of this cause I myself am a no photo person...mainly because I want to just chat and looks aren't that important in that scenario. I also get annoyed when ask for one when they stated they just want to chat.

At the same time I am also curious myself who the other person looks like. Not at first but if the conversation progresses then I want to know! lol but at that point the conversation usually dies off because my fantasy of "tall, dark, handsome" has been destroyed. :(

No photo no chat... the reason being..
So let's say you spend a week getting to know this person.. you like them you make each other laugh... you start to think wow maybe this is the person for me... and then the other person finally post a picture of themselves...
.. and holy guacamole Batman..
They look like they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.... okay I realize what I'm saying is not politically correct.... but let's face it! People like to be attracted to each other..... so now anyways.!.. you are in a tough spot.... how do you tell this person you spent a week getting to know... that you now no longer wish to communicate with them ..because they simply aren't what you were looking for in the looks department....
This is why I have a strict policy..
No photo no chat chat... why put yourself in a awkward position...
..

That's the reality of life...couldn't agree more lolzzz....What if it is KingKong on the other end??? I'll Run as fast as I can Faaarrrr Faaarrrr Awayyyyyy....laugh frustrated noway

Hi Faceless here :)

For me.. I can't put up a face. On here, no face book, or any other social media which would disclose a photo or personal information about me.

Why?

Because at a certain level in business it is highly discouraged. Competitors, business rival and many others are always looking for info on who they are dealing with... to get a edge.. a weakness. So, we are discouraged from doing it.

It is not the same world as it used to be. Your photo and personal info ( Facebook) can wind up anywhere , so most corp security and legal dept. people will advise against it.

I know people would did not get jobs or were passed over for promotions based on info gather on them from the web, social media and sites.

Most all companies do deep background checks ( on your background and your character too) before they hire ( at certain levels). Where do you think they start. When you post that 1/2 naked pic of yourself drunk on your Facebook.. you may want to think twice about that. Make a off color joke on a web site.. could be a problem.

Is H/R going to mention it to you.. nope... but it will be remembered.

I am sure the other faceless have their own reasons, some valid, some not.. but this is just one.

am now in your shoes and trapped between these two worlds... and can you guys just stop discriminating others just because they've got no photo? and these can discourage others who're having interest in the site..
i do respect your opinions and i know these is as a result of your experience with scammers, but can you just be fair? i as a novice who hasn't spent few hours on the site can be discourage by these... these deals with your mind and your decision, you don't have to confuse other users just due to the way you felt about a product, that's selfish.

I have encountered this several times in the past and hope I have handled it properly.
When you get a note from someone that has no photo, but says they will put one on eventually due to technical difficulties or because they believe in getting to know someone before sending one.

Do you go along with this? Do you spend any length of time talking to this faceless person? plus how long should you give them to produce this photo?

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THIS?

Thanks Tom

i avoid people with out pics

the reason why , is cause i have a very good imagination and it trumps realty

dont get me wrong people do make a valid point of some one stealing there pics and using them for bad , or jobs etc etc etc
<shrug>
but if i am not attracted to someone , no amount of talking will do that any good ... i am male i go a lot by sight, just as females go by touch and feelings (and before you say it i know that people age and loose there looks , that dont bother me, my x wife blew up from 140 pounds to over 300, i never looked down on her for that and i never lost the feelings of love for her, well till she cheated on me , but , that is offtopic ) and yes not all , just going by a ball part figure
<shrug>
but at the same rate i could post a pic and say i was Santa Claus that dont mean i was or am : ) oops offtopic

No. I would not answer a message from someone without a picture. Only in forums.

People are welcome to their own opinions. That is what the forum is all about to agree or disagree

Yeah, freedom of speech and you aired your side of the coin, we just have to respect the views and opinions of others be it positive or negative that is "Fair" If you can't accept it then you are biased and you are the one who is not being fair. Site users have their own minds and it is up to them to make their choice based on their own personal experience. Informations gathered be it good or bad is still an information and it will serve according to its purpose....and that is Not Selfishness....Got It?? biggrin
