Things To Be Grumpy About:

1. All your favourite music is in the "Oldies" section at the music store
2. Getting asked if you're old enough for the "Senior's Discount"
3. Having some little miss perky fresh face say you remind her of her Grampa
4. I can't touch my toes anymore
5. I can't even see my toes
6. Hosting a kick*ss party and your neighbours don't even know
7. Having some boompa-boompa car give you a headache at a stoplight
8. Some friggin' 20yr old kid holds the door open and calls you "Sir", just like you used to do for old people 30yrs ago
9. Falling asleep in the middle of a good action movie on TV
10. Being called "Old School" because you know how to fix stuff

it's a good start but I must say

I am certain there is more to it than that

now judging by the amount of lurkers that pop in this thread

I can only deduce that there are many interested parties

who are not quite up to Grumpy Old Man status

and thus are avidly reading along in the hopes of becoming enlightened

so dig deep oh crinkled and stoic ones and let loose

on those gems of wisdom bigsmile

11. Getting an email from Mingle saying there's six people that want to meet you, then finding out they're just 20-30yr olds from California and the Ukraine. In other words, 40yr old Nigerian scammers living in their mother's basement.

thanks Gummie..been kinda weird weekend for me

sent the kiddo off with his dad on friday for the next week since it's his spring break time

mine was couple weeks back
so I still have school and work coming up

crunch time of the semester which means lots of stuff coming due soon

spent this weekend with my head in a book or writing at computer
have not seen the light of day

we are supposed to be moving to a new place by beginning of May
so mama did not get out decorations this year

oh I still got him goodies for Easter and a new playstation game and a new book to read

but still...feeling kinda surreal to me..

oldest son and daughter in law spent this one with her mother and step dad
so this is first Easter I can remember in years and years
I have not been in kitchen cooking the big dinner for the family

feeling a bit odd and out of sorts

so any advice from you grumpies on how to handle the holidays when things are not like they used to be?

Sorry to hear that, girl. All I can say is that things will get better in time, or at the very least you will simply become used to the new direction in life.

2014 was one of the worst years for me... the now ex pulled a surprise "I want a divorce" attack on me at the start of March, which was a big surprise, as we'd sold our house in Feb and were in the process of making an offer on a new one in a different city. I had to scramble to find new accommodations in an unfamiliar area at the same time we were in the process of relocating the motorcycle shop I was working at. Then my Dad suddenly passed away two weeks later and from Apr to Jun I spent every weekend driving 5hrs to help Mom cope with the aftermath, sell her house, find her a new place, etc. Then a beloved Aunt passed away near the end of the summer and another was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer with a grim outlook on long term survival.

Thankfully, I still have some of my old Army instincts left in me... react, adapt, overcome, continue towards the objective. Suddenly it's two years later, I'm living closer to Mom now (she's about to hit 80 and is no longer a spring chicken), my life has shown signs of improvement and I continue to wake up every morning, breathing. Life goes on.
