Reading a nice story this morning in the news paper.

A couple have been engaged again 70 years after they split up.

Roy, now aged 90 was called to war and took part in the DDay landings of Normandy.
He was shot by a Nazi sniper and also suffered from shell shock.
When he returned to the Uk he struggled to cope with the trauma he had been through and he broke off his engagement and lost contact with his sweetheart.

He'd never forgotten her so recently he asked his local radio station to find her.

They tracked down Nora, now aged 89, he knocked at her door, complete with the same ring he had proposed with all those years ago.

He asked her to marry him and she said yes.

I can't seem to post a link but the full story is in the 'Daily mirror' under the headline 'we'll meet again'.

Sounds lovely!
BTW, the article doesn't come up in Google search, just a Vera Lynn article.

Ugg, nice story. My rule has always been. Never date an ex. Too much baggage. Always having to rehash every thing. Never done it, never regretted it. On to the new.

Sweet story.

Clearly you are never to old to find love.

But damn.....

I pray that I won't have to wait that long whoa

It makes you wonder whether they would have gone the distance... had they stay together all along.

Reading a nice story this morning in the news paper.

Seems more sad and possibly crappy.

I mean
so recently he asked his local radio station to find her.

Radio stations didn't exist for the last 70 years?
White pages?
Facebook?
Myspace?
Friends?
Family?
Newspapers?

And seriously, if some guy dumped you saying "I don't know what I want, I need to figure some things out," and you said "let me know when you do," would you "really" be there waiting for him after 70 years?

They tracked down Nora, now aged 89

IMO that's about 99% of it.
She's 89.
Guys aren't beating down her door.
There's something like 6 women for every 1 guy at that age+ since with advances in medical technology women live longer than men.

So....I really don't think it's a "love lost and found" type of situation so much as a "oh crap, I'm old and lonely, and any port in a storm," type of story.

Ha ha ha ha....and he just realized it after 70 years???? I'm just wondering then how old that guy is with disabilities.... but it seems like to be too good to be true.... anyway who lives that long nowadays????...very rarely....I shall wait for him in Heaven then...happy happy happy

Thank you, it is indeed one of the most inspiring, touching love story ive ever read so far. Amongst so many other stories this one reminds me of my grandma and how much she loved my grandfather. And how much they loved each other. Till the end. Today they are in a better place, together for eternity. flowerforyou

Roy will be tapping it on his wedding night. Dude has 70 years of pent up sexual tension. laugh
