right now i like it follows

I watch a lot of movies. I watch a lot of horror. Most horror movies flat out suck. I guess I am just immune to the genre. There are a few that I find entertaining. Most of those contain creatures or monsters. I love creature design. The weirder looking the better for me.

Starting to list them may give a wrong impression. Just because I list them first is not because I like them most, just because there is so many that I list them as they come to mind.

Jeepers Creepers movies.

I love the design of the creeper. The power and unstop-ability of it are only exceeded by why and how it eats. Of the two, I like the second better because it gave a better 'look' at the the creeper and showed more of its function and purpose. I read at (UHM) Upcoming Horror Movies that Jeepers Creepers 3 is actually finally being made. For me, it is a 'Must See' film.


Pumpkinhead

Another awesome design. Another unstoppable force. I liked the way the vengeance demon was linked to the person that summoned it. Of the four films in the series only the first one is truly appealing to me. I'd like to see a remake where Pumpkinhead is called forth in a city by an office executive to exact revenge on his CEO. The demon rises from basement to hi-rise penthouse, floor by floor, eliminating any that get in its way. Yeah!

Evil Dead

I love all the Evil Dead films. All for different reasons. Of the four, I find the recent reboot the scariest. It has all the elements of the original but with better graphics. I liked the cold turkey drug reference too. It doesn't have the charm and humor of the second film but I feel it stands out as the better as far as the horror factor is concerned. Army of Darkness is okay and has some decent slap-stick sight gags but nowhere compares to the Evil Dead 2 for sick comedy. I like to watch the first one and the 4th one back to back.

30 Days of Night

For many years Bela Lugosi was Dracula for me. An undead sexual predator with class and determination. The first time I saw 30 Days of Night it blew me away. It shows that vampires are not always romantic and slow moving determined hunters, they can be ruthless and sadistic. The extended night of the northern reaches was a perfect setting for a vampire siege. One thing that gets me tho, if vampires (and zombies) are dead at room temperature, why don't they just freeze solid in sub-zero temperatures? LOL, oh well, still a pretty cool flick.

Alien

Alien and Aliens are two of my most favorite films. I flat out love the creature designs. The claustrophobic feel of the first film is only rivaled by the overwhelming numbers in the second. The alien queen was by far the best of both. While I enjoy the entire film series including the AvPs and Prometheus, these first two films are by far the best and consistently rewatchable. I'm curious where the series will eventually lead us? Now that http://www.hrgiger.com/ is dead any new alien creature designs may have a different feel to them. I hope they don't screw up the series.

The Mimic

Of the three films in the series the first one always gives me the creeps. Another really cool creature design. What is really creepy is the fact that gene manipulation is a real science and people just love to mess with mother nature. Something like this could actually happen someday. I loved the flying mimics. When it opened up the first time I almost creamed my jeans. In blending form it is creepy as hell too. How many times have you caught a glimpse of someone standing in the shadows, could it really be a mimic? LOL, certainly creepy.

The Thing

While I love all three movies based on "Who Goes There" by John W. Campbell I feel the 1982 version is the creepiest. The creatures are fantastic and are real special effects not CGI. What really sets the movie firmly into the horror realm is the isolation and trust issues that develop. When considering alien lifeforms, this film does an excellent job exploring what we don't know and may not understand. It offers up the idea that function and purpose may be cellular, an over-whelming need to survive. I have Harbinger Down. It is like The Thing but bastardized and poorly made. I will only watch The Thing movies at night. Since I know them by heart, I now watch the 2011 film first then the 1982 one. If you have never seen any of them, watch The Thing From Another World 1951 first, then the 1982 then the 2011.

The Burrowers

This film has its own creep factor and some weird creature designs. I like how they eat you slowly as you ripen up in the dirt. The setting contributes to the film by lacking modern technology in the cowboy's quest to save his sweety. Not heart pounding terror but certainly creepy.


Burning Bright

Prey

Clausterphobic animal terror plain and simple. Amazing films that play on your fear of being eaten. Depicting real creatures in real possible situations. Until I saw Prey I thought The Ghost And The Darkness was the lion movie to see. I was mistaken.
