I do not believe for a minute that age is just a number.

Wide age gaps often translate into clashing incompatibilities of priorities , lifestyles , knowledge of self, and physical capacities.

Those incompatibilities may not appear obvious in the first 1-5 years because the older person's physical capabilities may not drastically change in that period, and the younger person's mentality towards life may also remain unchanged in that short time frame.

But fast forward to 15 or 20 years down the line.

A person like me at 40 , will not be looking the same or have the same physical capacities 20 years from now that a twenty something year old would 20 years from now. Thats a reality many people hide from.

Also, many people in their 20s and very early 30's are still finding themselves .They are likely to evolve ALOT mentally within a 20 year period in terms of their life goals , lifestyles and priorities , whereas many people in.their 40s are already formed and for the most part, know what they want .

Who is to know if the younger person will still have the same taste in mates after that 20 year evolution. That same mystery also exists for same aged couples but it sharply increases for wide age gap unions.

Those conflicting realities can become increasingly problematic as decades go by.

Most relationships are not impossible including age gap relationships , long distance unions , and all other unions plagued with special challenges ,.

But for such unions to stand a fighting chance, the couple can not afford to be giddy and naive about it.

Apart from all the love and romance.they feel, they have to be practical about how they are going to deal with the built in hurdles of these special relationships.

Does age gap matter to you? Especially in pursuing a relationship ? :)

I dated a chick 13 years younger then me she was in her 20s. The physical part and intimacy was awesome but the intellectual part was pretty fkd up sometimes coz my experience and maturity level was on another level...however i did try to be patient but it felt like downgrading your tech from an I Phone7 to a nokia 5110....in other words i had way tooo much of personality & life changing experiences & differences & she was of a différent background too but background still didn't matter it was mostly maturity level & understanding...

Can't speak for others, but I feel there must be an acceptable age difference ( perhaps 5 years diff approximate) since that ensures both are at similar wave length, think similarly. Not that an aged person in a relationship will not understand their partner but their priorities most of the time are different than the other

Hey, this guy has got it! Way to go baby! Imo social media is putting folks toghether you'd never see 70 with 30. 21 with 45. 15??? Well let's leave Afghanistan and West Virginia out of this. It's never happened before so regularly. Good luck kiddies, and as always, before you go to extreams, try someone your own age. I went to a highschool graduation. A grandfather type sat down next to me. You have a child here? I said no a friend's daughter. It's great! You have a grandchild down there? He said no, my son is over there.... ooops.

How do you guys feel about 20 year age gap relationships when both parties are over the age of 40?

Do you think the incompatibility factor is still too high?

I believe it can work if both are very secure and just do not care what other people think. For me, I just always felt silly and worried what my family would think. But that was a huge gap that I will never do again. It depends on how big the gap is too .

I don't. I think if they both know what they want and get along it will work. Matureness is not gained by age. I think it comes down to the person. I'm 19 and act more mature than some 30 year olds ect. Many people are also uneducated some never fully developed due to drugs and alcohol.

Lol I guess that's why they say "take it one day at a time" If we live in the past or wait for what the future brings we will miss the present. Only the present is guaranteed since the past is over and the future hasn't happened yet

You know you are absolutely right. The present is all that matters

I think in some ways it would matter ...
as a older women I see some of these young guys ...
and think ... ok he is way to young lmao but sure
are nice looking ... and more then likely I would
feel jealous all the time ... if in a relationship ...
with them ... and I don't want that emotion...
to old for that ****... so I would like to be somewhere
in between with someone who wants to enjoy life with me ...
and not have to think ...great... all he does is look at girls and women's *****... always looking for something more...
then we would have ... so yep ...
in some cases age will matter...

It all depends on the guy but us women can't help but feel this way unfortunately.

I avoid younger women like the plague. Other than physical, there is nothing to relate to. If a gal is 45-55 we can have a great time of dancing and conversation. flowers

Phew.... I am exactly at max border line.  flowers flowers
In time for the great time of dancing..........blushing blushing

Lol, ok Eva, I've sent a plane to Changi. Go to avis rental car station. Ask for Chico. He lools like a wookie from starwars. He will take you to a Lear G2. I'll meet you in Morocco. Well do some dinner and dancing.
