--

California had one of its driest years in 2015. In fact, last year marked the driest four-year period in the state's history.

But Donald Trump isn't sold. Six months later, the presumptive GOP nominee told supporters in Fresno, Calif., that no such dry spell exists.

In fact, Trump said state officials were simply denying water to Central Valley farmers to prioritize the Delta smelt, a native California fish nearing extinction —or as Trump called it, "a certain kind of three-inch fish.”

“We’re going to solve your water problem. You have a water problem that is so insane. It is so ridiculous where they’re taking the water and shoving it out to sea,” Trump told thousands of supporters at the campaign event.

Er, um, news-flash, Donald:

Yes, there is a drought

A series of graphics from the Los Angeles Times shows the progression of the drought from 2011 through the present, using data from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The drought worsened in 2014 and 2015, eventually subsiding marginally this year.

The Drought Monitor's website says that over the past week parts of northeastern California and northern Nevada saw improvements and that "overall conditions have continued to steadily improve during the past year."

The reservoir's level has fallen during the drought, and the water that is still available flows through ditches to farms that hold senior water rights. Trump spoke in Fresno and San Diego ahead of California's June 7 primary. California is the country's top agriculture producer, and the drought has raised tensions among farmers, government officials and environmentalists.

State officials imposed a water ban June 1, 2015, after record low rain and snowfall. The scarcity was evident from the Sierra Nevada's shrunken snowpack to the dry wells of the Central Valley.

Trump's comments come weeks after Gov. Edmund Brown issued an executive order updating water restrictions. The water rules were imposed in hopes of building the state's "resilience"in the long-term water conservation measures through monthly water use reporting and bans on "clearly wasteful practices such as hosing off sidewalks, driveways and other hardscapes," according to a news release from the California Government Operations Agency's website.

Meanwhile, the powerful farm lobby is trying to secure federal and state approval for billions of dollars to create new water tunnels, dams and other projects.

At least we know where Trump stands on the issue: “If I win, believe me, we’re going to start opening up the water so that you can have your farmers survive."

--

So...there you have it. Donald Trump not only is making a mockery of the highest office in the land, but he now makes a mockery of a horrific weather pattern that has plagued the Southwest for years and starved millions of animals and strangled farmlands.

And he says he's going to fix everything?

I can't wait to see his rain-dance then.

Or should that be his tap-dance...? =)

here's what he really said...

FRESNO, Calif. — Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump told California voters Friday that he can solve their water crisis, declaring that: “There is no drought.”

Speaking at a rally in Fresno, Calif., Trump accused state officials of denying water to Central Valley farmers so they can send it out to sea “to protect a certain kind of three-inch fish.”

“We’re going to solve your water problem. You have a water problem that is so insane. It is so ridiculous where they’re taking the water and shoving it out to sea,” Trump said to cheers at a rally that drew thousands.

Trump said he spent 30 minutes before the rally meeting with more than 50 farmers who complained to him about their struggles.

“They don’t understand — nobody understands it,” he said, adding that, “There is no drought.”

Trump appeared to be referring to water that runs naturally from the Sacramento River to the San Francisco Bay and then to the ocean. Some farmers want more of that flow captured and diverted to them. The three-inch Delta smelt is a native California fish on the brink of extinction. The smelt has become an emblem in the state’s battles over environmental laws and water distribution.

Politically influential rural water districts and well-off corporate farmers in and around California’s Central Valley have been pushing back against longstanding federal laws protecting endangered fish and other species, saying federal efforts to make sure endangered native fish have enough water is short-changing farmers of the water they want and need for crops.

Water authorities say they can’t do it because of the water rights of those upstream of the farmers, and because of the minimum-water allowances needed by endangered species in the bay and by wildlife in general.

The farm lobby, a heavyweight player in California’s water wars, also is seeking federal and state approval for billions of dollars in new water tunnels, dams, water distribution plans, and other projects.

Trump says that, “If I win, believe me, we’re going to start opening up the water so that you can have your farmers survive.”
California last year marked the driest four-year period in its history, with record low rainfall and snow.
California is the country’s No. 1 agriculture producer. The state’s five-year drought is raising the stakes in water disputes among farmers, cities and towns, and environmental interests. California last year marked the driest four-year period in its history, with record low rainfall and snow.

Trump’s appearance drew several hundred protesters who marched around the arena where he was speaking.

Trump is also scheduled to appear Friday at a rally in San Diego, where police are also taking precautions to prevent the kind of violence that has occurred at previous protests against the billionaire businessman-turned-politician.

A count by The Associated Press found Thursday that Trump has reached the required number of delegates to officially clinch the Republican nomination.

trump knows there is no global warming, and is going to stop all that silliness and spending on something that doesn't matter... they(liberals) blame the drought on GW, when in fact, you said it yourself, is weather patterns...

California spending drought money to prepare for flooding
By Pedro Gonzales

California is currently experiencing a drought, probably caused by global warming, since such things are not naturally occuring phenomena. In response, California is spending nearly a billion dollars, mostly on things unrelated to drought. Six hundred sixty million dollars is being spent to prepare for floods:

Asked how spending money on flood prevention would help the drought, the governor [Jerry Brown] warned of "extreme weather events" caused by climate change. "And with extreme weather events, you get drought. And then all of a sudden, when you’re all focused on drought, you can get massive storms that flood through these channels and overflow and cause havoc," he said.

Aha! Jerry Brown is two steps ahead! He realizes that global warming is causing the drought, and he understands that flooding is next. In that light, it all makes sense. Since we're going to have floods, there's no need to spend money on dealing with the drought, right?

California is also spending millions of dollars to give food and housing assistance to those affected by drought. Which has nothing to do with droughts.

"This is just a down payment on our efforts to address the drought," he [a Democratic State Senator] said. "This is just the first round."

Do you think in the second round of drought relief that money will actually be spent on drought relief?

On Tuesday, the State Water Board tightened its watering restrictions, telling urban agencies to limit the number of days residents can water their yards.

What about increasing supply? What about building more dams? No discussion of that in the article. Would that offend some kind of fish or snail, perhaps?

If the solution is going to be entirely conservation, why don't we conserve water by deporting all the illegal aliens from California? There are estimated to be nearly 3,000,000 illegal aliens in California. Think how much water could be conserved if they were deported.

In California, everything is upside-down. Illegal aliens are virtuous, jails are being emptied, and citizens are oppressed with high taxes. People smoke "medicinal" dope like they're at a Rand Paul nominating convention. Is it any wonder that we have a state government that spends money on flood control in the name of drought relief?

http://www.city-journal.org/html/scorching-california-13704.html

In mid-December, the first large storms in three years drenched California. No one knows whether the rain and snow will continue—only that it must last for weeks if a record three-year drought, both natural and man-made, is to end. In the 1970s, coastal elites squelched California’s near-century-long commitment to building dams, reservoirs, and canals, even as the Golden State’s population ballooned. Court-ordered drainage of man-made lakes, meant to restore fish to the 1,100-square-mile Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, partly caused central California’s reservoir water to dry up. Not content with preventing construction of new water infrastructure, environmentalists reverse-engineered existing projects to divert precious water away from agriculture, privileging the needs of fish over the needs of people. Then they alleged that global warming, not their own foolish policies, had caused the current crisis.

Even as a fourth year of drought threatens the state, canal water from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir in Yosemite National Park keeps Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area a verdant oasis. This parched coastal mountain range would have depopulated long ago without the infrastructure that an earlier, wiser generation built and that latter-day regulators and environmentalists so casually deprecated. (See “California’s Promethean Past,” Summer 2013.) Gardens and lawns remain green in Palo Alto, San Mateo, Cupertino, and San Francisco, where residents continue to benefit from past investments in huge water transfers from inland mountains to the coast. They will be the last to go dry.

I grew up in the central San Joaquin Valley during the 1950s. In those days, some old-timers remembered with fondness when the undammed Kings River’s wild, white water would gush down into the sparsely populated valley. But most Californians never had such nostalgia. Past generations accepted that California was a growing state (with some 20 million people by 1970), that agriculture was its premier industry, and that the state fed not just its own people but millions across America and overseas. All of that required redistribution of water—and thus dams, reservoirs, and irrigation canals.(read on)

California asked for it!

You are missing the same thing trump seems to be missing.

Reserving water IS about the farmers best interests. It's about the LONG TERM interests of the entire region, as opposed to using up all available resources without regard to real shortages, and then accepting a total collapse as "just one of those things."

True conservatives plan for the future, and CONSERVE AND MANAGE what resources we have, in order to maximize everyone's opportunities going forward.

What Trump has proposed, is to ignore the real shortage caused by the real drought, and just accept the risk that things will eventually be okay.

Again, false. They are allowing less than the normal amount of water to flow to the ocean.

What they are refusing to do, is to give in to the people who want to actively divert ALL available water to the farms, and tell the rest of the residents of California to suck it, when things go wrong because they did.

California Dumps a Trillion Gallon of Fresh Water in Ocean – Declares Water Shortage
Scott Osborn — April 14, 2015

California is dumping a trillion gallons of fresh Water in the ocean. Only liberals would declare a water shortage disaster after spending years dumping good, fresh water into the ocean to protect a non-endangered bait fish.
California is dumping trillions of gallons of fresh water into the ocean, creating a man-made disaster, to protect an non-endangered bait fish.

For years now, the southern 1/3 of the beautiful San Joaquin Valley’s farmland has been turned into a “man-made” dust bowl.

The water is being allowed to just run off the mountains, through the river system, through the delta, and out into the ocean. The water is being reserved for the little Delta Smelt, a three inch bait fish, that is not endangered species list.

Now, California is in the midst of a drought. As the Governor institutes water emergency rules, they just let all that water just keep pouring into the ocean. Unbelievable!

The I-5 San Joaquin Valley corridor is marked with signs begging Nancy Pelosi to turn the water on. Sean Hannity hosted a full show from Hanford, CA to highlight the problem. Phone calls and letters from all over the country have been sent to try to fix this situation.

Comedian Paul Rodriguez, co-chair of Latino Water Coalition, crosses the state working to remove the environmental protection on the Delta smelt.

Representative Devin Nunes, (CA) describes the situation in the WSJ back in 2009.
Signs begging Sacremento and DC to turn the water back on are scattered all over the lower San Joaquin Valley.

Today the San Joaquin Valley is being transformed into a dust bowl. Hundreds of thousands of acres are fallow, while almond and plum trees are being left to die in the scorching sun.

Tens of thousands of people have been tossed out of work—the town of Mendota alone has an unemployment rate of about 40%—and the lines for food donations stretch down streets. The reason? There isn’t enough water to go around this year, and the Obama administration is drawing up new reasons to divert more of it from farms and people and into the San Francisco Bay.

Devon Nunes also stated in an interview along side Paul Rodriguez, “There’s a half a million acres of farmland, it’s bigger than the size of Rhode Island, that’s now dry because of these fools!”

David Spady reports that, “California’s man-made water crisis led to $2.2 billion in losses, water rationing, rising food costs, and the destruction of small family businesses.”

The destruction is horrific. Businesses lost, property values lost, jobs lost, crop production lost, food cost increases, just to begin.

Presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina recently weighed in on the subject. She said that as a result, 70 percent of California’s rainfall “washes out to sea” every year…California is a classic case of liberals being willing to sacrifice other people’s lives and livelihoods at the altar of their ideology. It is a tragedy,”

The Climate Change, Save the Whale, Hug the Tree, Save the Baitfish crowd consistently uses a false narrative to to accomplish their political agenda. Now scientists are predicting a 35 year mega-drought in the West. When does the madness stop?

Environmental and endangered species laws are being used to force a political agenda, and in the process, doing severe damage to our country.

Filmmaker David Spady is working on a movie to highlight the travesty. No Water. No Farmer. No Food. reveals the extent to which both rural and urban populations rely on the nation’s agricultural industry.

Folks, I foresaw California's water woes 16 years ago.
Back then, my wife and I took a trip to southern California to visit her relatives.

At the time, she expressed a desire to live there again, but I didn't want to.

I knew about California's climate history. I knew that southern California was naturally a desert.

I knew that the growing Human population there had cause water demand to outstrip water supply.

28 years ago I lived at Lake Tahoe, during which time a lack of rain cause the water level in Lake Tahoe to drop below the level of its rim. Swimming along the south shore became difficult because one had to wade out quite a ways before getting into deep enough water to swim in.

It isn't that California is experiencing unusual weather conditions.. It is that the southwestern USA finally came out of a lengthy period of unusually cool and wet weather.

good call... and the fact the people there change the water flows doesn't really help all the much to begin with in the first place...

in other words, they created their own problem, and then blame global warming as the problem, when the actual problem is just to many damn people their... but the liberals can't break their PC policy to say what the real problem is...

i noticed the same type thing going on in Texas(Dallas area) for the last 20 years, where lake levels(in the 70-80's)were always 20-30 feet below the norm... but in the 90's, the weather patterns changed and they haven't been that far below since...

Then he can be all "let's build a pipeline from the great lakes all across the country! Shovel ready jobs! Make America wet again! Build that pipe! Build that pipe! I'll make Californians pay for it! Just a bunch of gang members and foreigners trying to be governor bringing in diseases like HIV."

Keep the image consistent.

Men...Trump made a speech tailored to that audience... that's what candidates do.
Hell, Hillary changes accents based on where she's speaking.....

Yes but Trump is FILLED with bad wording! =) And I agree, the people should come first. So let's not make the people believe their problems are due to a government conspiracy, when Mother Nature is at fault, right?

bad wording, but his point is still valid... the people should come first, especially the farmers...
