I believe people ask strangers to get different perceptions from their own.

I also believe people ask strangers as a more direct way to connect with those who are like minded or with similar values.

I think what most people who post such things are doing, is sort of like trying to build a team of supporters. They usually only halfway know what it is they want. They haven't thought it through, and don't even realize that they NEED to think it through, so they go to the crowd for instructions or hints.

That's why, when someone responds by telling them NOT to do what they just a minute ago asked for opinions on, instead of thinking about it more, they attack the person who said no.

what else is the 'dating' thread for? but to find dates and share experiences and perceptions?

I think they are unsure and insecure about themselves. Why should I care who thinks who I should date? So sad. Like what you like

Whe

There could be any number of reasons to ask online. It's easier to ask in anonymity than to face the people you know.
If you live in a world of closed ideas, it's interesting to find out what else is put there.
If you find people that share your ideas, you would be drawn to them.
Or maybe the feelings have grown between the coupke and they are looking to justify their behavior.
It's interesting that it's a question that's not just isolated to one part of the world.
It shows that in many parts people are judged not by their character but by mire superficial characteristic

I agree dreamer.

I think the point of a social forum is to get other peoples perceptions. Who cares? is a question that can be asked of any topic. There are people who can't move without being accepted by others, and there are those who prefer to live where the only opinion that matters is their own, but there are many in between as well.

I feel it is interesting to find out what other people think and what others have experienced, it helps us grow as individuals,,,imho.

it is good that there are number of topics on the forums that people can choose or not choose to participate in ,depending upon what they care about,,,

I don't care about many of the political threads people start, so I just dont participate.

All of these topics about interracial dating, age, whatever. Why ask complete strangers?

To generate responses.
Billboard in a way that doesn't seem desperate.
A means to control the contact.
Occasionally in order to shift responsibility for what they want.
Sometimes as a means of generating validating support or contempt.

Depends on how it's worded.

Do you boo.

Only when sneaking up on someone that I know.

Do people really care what people online say?

In general, emotionally yes, consciously or intellectually, not so much.
Kinda depends on how you mean "care."
Care as in a conscious and willing choice to emotionally associate, made from a deep well of perception and knowledge, then no.
Care as in are emotionally triggered on some level, without choice, then yes.

People seeking other people via social media is driven by emotion, not logic or reason, even though a lot of people that see emotions as a weakness try to tell themselves it's all about rational thought and logic to hide from their emotional reactions, or to give them a higher purpose as a means of feeling superior.

In my opinion, it's everyone's right to voice their opinion about anything, it's my own choice if I listen.
If I ask you for advice, and I get nothing in return, then I am left feeling worse off. It is helpful to ask, but beware of the response, u might not like it.

ya I know
it's too bad we cannot just sticky some of these topics to top of dating thread

1. younger man looking for older woman
2. me so horny want sex

and then each one could go on for pages saying things like

hai
or hi

as far as why they post about inter-racial?

I suspect they are hoping for a list of the ones open to it
so they can message them
