They have came up with a better Idea to rid...
the roads of pot holes ... I am for all of this ...
becouse this seems to cover the costs to states ...
where they just go bad again ...
not sure where I heard this good idea ...
but sure am willing to share ...
for the one person who hates pot holes...laugh
and the side of our roads crumbling ...

They take old tires put the small ...medium...
large tire in the hole ...
then cover with gravel or rocks ...
then pave over them...less likely to corrode ...
on the side of the rd or pot holes ...
they have filled it with ...
then that $ can be saved to go to our...
seasonal bad weather projects ...we can get ...
like mud slides... trees in the rd..
boulders in the rd ...snow ... and the patrol trucks + some ...
an safer rds ... safer for our vehicles
what a great idea ...thanks for sharing ...

This should not hurt ...the tires for shoe projects ...
believe there are enough tires too go around ...happy

Thanks, that does sound like a great idea, and not only does it cut down on the cost, but can actually protect the environment. Just think about all those tires burnt throughout the years!!! ✌

Umm.. that's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.. so when the pavement that they used to pave over these tires with ...does .. eventually arode away.. you have this freaking tire sticking up..out of the road. . Awesome idea..noooo..
What they do.. do is grind the tires up into chips.. mix that with asphalt and you have a better Road patch..omg.. hey Billy Bob .. why don't we just take the garbage from the landfill and fill the potholes with that.. broken glass.
Rusty Nails.. old fridges and freezers..lol

I think that everyone should wear tire shoes biggrin

That wasn't very nice phd. What I found interesting is the pollution from burning tires. Most of the tires today are reclaimed and some are recaped.

Or maybe we should all have horses "screw the motor vehicle!"

I know for a while now "they" have been shredding tires and adding it to asphalt mixtures.
It's supposed to be adding qualities and making it last longer.
Not sure if it's used in filling potholes or just to cover roads.
Seems more ideal than just sticking a whole tire in a hole and then doing it the normal way.
Tires are generally hollow so is just filling around a tire in a hole really saving all that much?
Or is the entire purpose to just get rid of tires from landfills or old tire sites? To sweep old tires under the rug, or road, so to speak.

I still believe this is a good Idea ... I thought the specifics was to use the hole tire and then gravel and then pave ... could be wrong ...
but breaking up the tires sounds good ...if it holds better ... either way saying it is lasting a long time ...is a good thing ...

and as far as the shoes go ... NASCAR... had a team working with them to use their old tires... to make shoes and give to the poor ... and even sold them for less ... that's where that came from ...

Well. . I'm sorry you took offense to what I said...but.. I got my point across it's a dumb idea.. I don't think the o p.. came up with the concept on their own.. it's just a topic..
And yes the tires get chipped up and mixed in with asphalt... they don't just put a whole tire in the hole.. because that would be (((dumb)))..lol..
And in no way am I saying that the
o p....is dumb.. just the concept

LOL, Fun topic to read.

Speaking from the point of view of a lifelong mechanic. Tires are a bad idea for substrate. Rubber on rubber in natural elements reduce friction and you ride on a patch of rubber the size of your iPod. Did you know that you are riding on air? Captured by metal fibers and rubber?

The reason the pavement gets potholes is because of its nature. When you drive on a road you are actually moving it. All that movement wears down its foundation and erodes the structual integrity. Heat, cold, water, vibration and flexing cause pockets to form. The concrete/asphalt succumbs to the forces because it is rigid.

While rubber is great for absorbing shocks that casue potholes it reduces the friction needed to maintain tire grip. Safety first! You wanna stop doncha?
Don't want to slide off the road on curves do you?

At our present technology potholes are inevitable. The newset technology accounts for roadbed movement and weather conditions. Traffic is on the increase. Traffic means more movement progressing in duration and severity. Its the reason for weight limits on highways.

The path you ride not only moves up and down it slides. All that movement causes fractures to occur that allows elements to enter. Expansion and contraction makes the pavement weak and your tires pound the pavement out pulversizing it causing potholes.

Until cars hover over the surface the path will always become rough. Perhaps that says something about life...

Tires aren't just rubber. What happens when it gets down to the steel?

.. well that's what we call when the rubber hits the road...lol

You buy new ones

Technically the rubber isn't pure rubber either. It has materials added to it and is cooked for application.

I do give credit to the OP for thinking outside the box and trying to help. Unfortunately tires have steel that can do damage

Its all physics.
The steel barely contacts the road surface (only when the tire is dangerously worn) its the weight and the impacts not to minimize the tortional displacements that contribute to potholes.

But cars are not the only factor. Construction of the road, its substrate and even the weather contributes to potholes.

Edit to add: Chemicals like emmissions and leakage as well.

your right ...I did not come up with this myself ...
and I don't remember them saying they shredded the tires which would make more since ... some of our pot holes are huge and some of the side rds are crumbling ... so filling the whole with something does make more since ... I would think the tire might melt with the hot paving... and still paving the normal way is a waste of $ water still gets under it and opens it up ... some do say mixed with asphalt...

I just would lilke the wholes filled in a better way + the side of our rds crumble and guess what ... that is over the mountain you go ...crumbling off...

laugh Just a little humor. I agree It was a pretty elaborate concept, and I do know what they do with tires. flowers
