Man opens fire with M1 at republican charity baseball game, injures several, including republican congressman.

Maybe now they will do something about background checks for firearms.

Kaine: Democrats Have To "Fight In The Streets" Against Trump
On Tuesday's broadcast of MSNBC's Morning Joe, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said Democrats must take advantage of "public outcry against the [Trump] administration]." Kaine said Democrats must fight back in Congress, the courts, and in the streets.

"What we've got to do is fight in Congress, fight in the courts, fight in the streets, fight online, fight at the ballot box, and now there's the momentum to be able to do this," Kaine said to Democrats. "And we're not afraid of the popular outcry, we're energized by it and that's going to help us do our job and do it better."

wth does a background check have to do with it?? no matter what process there is criminals will get guns and they're not filling out the forms and waiting on the gun dealer to phone their info in...I would assume thou if it was an M1 it was legally obtained...and if he got off 50 rounds it was the carbine not the garand...well we're really screwed as a country now....a liberal figured out how to load a gun...no bueno

Maybe now they will do something about background checks for firearms.

What exactly do you want "they" to do, or expect "they" to do, about background checks for firearms?

From the information released so far, what historical information is there about the shooter that would indicate he wouldn't pass a firearm background check, even any "enhanced" background check that "they" might pass?

I am less concerned about gun laws and more concerned about an apparent lack of intelligence/security at a high profile event like this with a crowd where there were public figures present. Who had the perimeter?noway

How does a background check show you when someone is going to flip our or go postal as they said?

even with security nothing could be done when having a gun is LEGAL. They would have no reason to stop or detain him. However, they probably did reduce the potential carnage and they took him out alive, quite the accomplishment.

It wasn't a high profiled event. Dems and Reps have a charity game every year. This was just practice on a practice field. How this crazy got in, who knows. There was police which is why the took him down and he passed away. Nutters will always fibd a way

Nutters will always find a way. Has nothing to do with gun control. There are back ground checks in place, but they can't predict someone going crazy or the illegal gun sales. That happens

It is not entirely accurate to claim that this occurred due to politics. It appears that it occurred due to a mentally disturbed person fixating on trying to bring about a solution to his problems by attacking one political party's members. That's entirely different.

Just my opinion, but I don't think that any SINGLE legal change can fix most crime-related problems. As for gun crimes, they are like any problem with multiple elements and causes, we have to investigate exactly what DID happen from beginning to end, before we can figure out whether this or that propose law would have helped.

And no, I have watched pro and anti gun people debating this area for six decades now, and I've never seen ANY instance of any kind, cause significant numbers of people on either side to change their minds. Mainly because "I haven't been shot yet myself" hasn't been the primary argument for people who oppose regulations, any more than supporters of regulations have based their entire arguments on the fact that no one with a gun had specifically SAVED them from anything.

A background check shows that you have a criminal record that involves a gun. That should be on record and that person can't legally buy a gun.

I suppose that part of it was a positive takeaway.

Were the weapons used legal?

Unfortunately if those types want weapons they will find them. But that does not mean controls aren't needed. They definitely are.

I don't "blame" the security team, but I will bet they take a lesson from this.waving
