First Evidence That Online Dating Is Changing the Nature of Society
http://www.technologyreview.com/s/609091/first-evidence-that-online-dating-is-changing-the-nature-of-society/

Dating websites have changed the way couples meet. Now evidence is emerging that this change is influencing levels of interracial marriage and even the stability of marriage itself.

Today, online dating is the second most common way for heterosexual couples to meet. For homosexual couples, it is far and away the most popular.

Josue Ortega at the University of Essex in the U.K. and Philipp Hergovich at the University of Vienna in Austria.

The team measure the strength of marriages by measuring the average distance between partners before and after the introduction of online dating. “Our model also predicts that marriages created in a society with online dating tend to be stronger,” they say.

Meanwhile, research into the strength of marriage has found some evidence that married couples who meet online have lower rates of marital breakup than those who meet traditionally. That has the potential to significantly benefit society. And it’s exactly what Ortega and Hergovich’s model predicts.

I thought this was interesting because many say that Online Dating is non-consequential to society and that they seldom work.
This study identifies trends that state the opposite.

The article is optimistic for anyone seeking a relationship thru Online Dating sites.

I feel its possible that relationships that are not so significantly based in the physical and that, by their nature, must focus on actually communicating and getting to know others, without the usual physical distractions that in person lust can cause, are relationships that will have more substance and sustainability.

Online dating is changing the nature of society..

I'll say it's a lot easier to convince a woman
To come to my place... and then lock her in my sub basement... online then it is offline..
Offline I would have to chase them down use chloroform on them... lock them into my trunk of my car... and then there's all the screaming and shouting..omg...
So much easier online..lol.. of course I'm only kidding I use a van not the trunk of a car..lol

Agree, plus the study was likely made using the highest used sites that are pay and not free. With pay sites, the participant has a vested monetary interest that probably sways the results. You get what you pay for kinda thing.

I agree, the nature of the online process is less physical/chemistry and more about getting to know each other. More of a personality match than a physical match but it is also the physical compatability that preserves the relationship after meeting. If there is no physical attraction, no online dating is going to result in a successful marriage or long term relationship.

What I liked about the article is the optimism it gives potential online daters in a world of societies that tend to sway towards pessimism.
Even here, there are more people that are pessimistic about finding someone than are optimistic. Its nice to see something positive on the subject to remind us that "good things" do indeed happen.

You are such a modern man, I still believe in the caveman way, Bonk Bonk, then grab a handfull of hair and drag her back to my mancave.
Some things should never be modernized...

..well.. one reason!.. it is always nice to .. pleasantly surprised people..
.. take me for example.. most people think I'm a big douche bag.. but every now and then ..I post something that makes them think twice.. something genuine soft and gooey...lol... but it doesn't mean I'm still not a douchebag...lol.. it's just nice to surprise them... once in awhile.. keeps them on their toes..lol.wink

hmm.. but think of the thrill of the chase down the street! Even I am getting excited now blushing Okay, not the chloroform, nor the trunk of his car, but him chasing me definitely does something funky to my hormones  love

Dunno yet, I'm still in la-la land over the chase down the street-minus-the-chloroform... haven't read the rest yet.
